Thanks Rev..very helpful...I've got plenty of hard copy info from recruiter at school but was confused about which OC I'd begin at...one conversation with a person at SN told me I'd train here in Charlotte, NC and then 3 days in Houston, TX. Another only mentioned Harrisburg...don't think they like to use the word "Carlisle". I'll learn more Monday morn. when I speak with them again. Thanks for your other links and input I've found here as well. Keep it safe out there!

You may be confused about you home OC because not every OC is a bulk OC. They train in Carlisle for both bulk and van, but it's a van OC. I had guys in my class from Charlotte, NC but their home OC is Carteret, NJ because that's the closest bulk OC​

I decided to become a trucker. I worked with Schneider for about 4 months...I could not believe all the red tape, government regs, fees, tests, etc. it takes to become a driver. However, living in a rural area, it took me some time to complete the needed things. Like getting fingerprinted - I had to drive 100 miles from my home.

Troughout our discussions the Schneider rep was very upbeat and positive. I was scheduled to take the leaner's tests on one Tuesday, and failed by one question. The Schneider rep was cool with this, told me to take it over, pass it, and they would get me into school in Carlisle, PA. It seemed pretty much a done deal, so I quit my to part-time jobs. Then when I called Schneider to tell the rep I passed, he said that I would need to get some paper work to him quickly, then asked me my zip code. He left for a few, came back and said "Im sorry, we don't have any openings in your area...good luck!"

I am new to this site, and am not sure if this is where I needed to say this, but - here goes. I seem to be learning alot lately!

Man...I was pissed. He knew all along where I lived. He did not hint once that this would be a problem. He did not ask if I was willing to relocate. I spent lots of money I did not have to get prepared, worked hard to pass my tests, passed all required medical and background checks...and this is how I was treated. All I can say is if this is the "Schneider Way" it sucks big time.

 

Retention does not always boil down to a bad company, As Turbo said the truckers Lifestyle is not for everyone, When I went through School 10 Plus years ago it was said by the Truck School that the average lifespan of a new driver is 6 Months, I would come close to agreeing with that, Alot of people just cant be away from home that long, #### it cost me two marriages but I enjoy what I do for a living, Sure Shippers and dispatchers can cause you headaches but in life it is what you make of it. After numerous companies I have worked for Schneider Tries to inprove on retention, However they are not mind readers or sycologist therefore determining the needs and or disposition of the potential driver cannot be known. I am 100% happy with Schneider I run the miles and go home when I want authough I try to stay out 2 weeks but sometimes I will get one through the house and take my break at the house. anyway take care be safe.........

I have a question for someone that has a couple of years in with Schneider. I am looking to change companies and one thing I had decided was I didn't want to be with another 'training' company because I feel that where I'm at now with 3 years in I'm still seeing that a majority of my current company is treated like a student. There are so many of them that everyone gets lumped into that group. Is it that way at Schneider? Or do you feel that you get the respect you deserve for the amount of experience you have. Also how hard/easy is it to make it as a solo with them in the western division?

never mind. just got a call from Schneider, and they won't work with me because of where I live. When I told them I was willing to move to Portland Or to be next to there terminal. I was called a lier and told I wouldn't move because my wife wouldn't let me... ...I've never been married, and never claimed to be.
