Hi friends. I’m interested in replacing my frame rails in my 2003 Pete. I have a chance to grab a late model 579 single frame chassis to replace my double frame. Without putting them up against each other and comparing, I’m wondering if they would be compatible with each other. Any chassis gurus out there that can offer some advice?

Are the inside frame rails you have good enough to go inside the frame rails you want to use . Your gonna hate a single frame after running a double frame . The outside measurement of the frame will be identical but the inside will be different and the crossmembers all shorter to make up for the width of frame rails inside

Had an assigned company truck about 4 years ago that developed a frame crack between the tandems. Pete, long nose straight truck. Company claims it would be nearly $30,000 to replace that one side. They refused to have it welded. Sad, it was a really nice, powerful truck. Had less than 100,000 miles on it.

Hi Roger. My rails are separating because of all the years of running salt and the road conditions from the salted roads. Many of my friends have purchased late model tractors with single frames and aren’t having any issues “yet”.

Most guys around me are going heavy single frame…… but over a certain length you gotta do inserts or full double
