How often should you re-pack grease hubs? I run oil hubs on all my trailers, but I fitted new K-Hitch axles on my converter dolly and they have grease hubs. A Google search didn’t come up with much relevant info.

I pull them down and inspect and repack along with new seal at every brake job. I believe it is a recommendation of hub mfg’s

Problem is my brakes last forever. The dolly has done 330,000 kms (205,000 miles) and the brakes are barely worn. I just took a little play out of the bearings yesterday and I was thinking it’s about time I re-packed the bearings. About one third of the mileage is when there is no load on it when I tow it behind a trailer.

Sharp truck mister! Does it get good mileage?
A large fleet I worked for did them at 5 years. Hendrickson standard hub repack and seal schedule is 2 years or 300,000 km. Preset hub schedule is 5 years or 800,00 km.

Welcome back @Ozdriver , haven’t seen you here for awhile. Are you still running your KW 3408 Cat ?

    Welcome back….:)

How much dirt and flooded areas do you deal with……? I would guess that changes the service interval…..

I’m an oil hub guy too….

Yes, that’s the mileage to service I was more or less thinking.

With 2 trailers at 79 tonnes about the same fuel mileage as a modern truck as long as you drive it correctly.

Not so much dirt as I used to when I used to go out to drill rigs in the oil boom a few years ago.

Yes, oil hubs are best imho, as long as bearing pre-loads are correct and you use properly installed quality seals.

I was looking for your truck in the series “Outback Truckers”……. Visiting Australia is on my bucket list, just to go for a ride along. I don’t think I would be able to handle driving on the wrong side of the roads ;):rolleyes:

Ozdriver and Cat sdp Thank this.
