hello i just graduated from truck driving school in 12/2006. well i finished the school and got my class a cdl. i got really sick for a week and the river flooded and a train derailed blocking off the highway for a week. i live in a small town in washington state with one highway that runs thru this part of town. so that put me behind about two weeks. i was going to work for a company in montana. they co signed for the loan so i would get a better interest rate. i read the paperwork and talked with the administrator it was not a contract. i tried to get out of it before the school was finished. because i know with money running low i would not be able to pay for my food for two weeks as during the orientation and training for two weeks. they dont pay you anything. im sure i am screwed now and probably wont be able to get on with another outfit. i did not even know what a dac report and a usis was until came upon this website. im sure they will put down i was fired and what ever else they want to put. i wish i would of found this website before i finished school. is there any trucking company i could get on with to get some driving experience. i was in the military 10 yrs and got out with a honorable discharge i guess i should of retired but when my two kids came along it made it tuff being gone for 6 months.

no your not screwed but timing is of the escence now. there are several companies that will still hire you but you are gonna have to stay withthem for at least a year to show stability and not make that look so bad. just be honest with them from the get go about everything.

I failed to mention that you since you live in the NW, you may want to check out Interstate Distributors also. I have heard some good things about them and they are somewhere up there in WA. Their website is www.drive4us.com I don't know if they take newbies, but it doesn't hurt to check. If they don't take newbies, you can always keep them in mind if you are ready to move on after a year at your next company. Never hurts to have options so you are not caught unprepared if you decide you want to leave where you're at. My roommate is very happy at his company, but it doesn't stop him from checking out others -- he likes to have options and if things change in a hurry -- as they often do in this industry, he has his Plan B, Plan C and Plan D in place already.
