It's a similar sensor for the DT466s. They swell and crack quite often. Hard start, idle surges, codes..
Those 7.3s in fords are not bad to work on. Especially compared to what came after. The whole cab removal thing sucked.
Even the new gms requires cab removal. With the new style thats the procedure..
    Blech.

I often wondered why they wouldn't make a tilt hood for more access.

Then I spent some time in the autobay, working on the C5500's...........

They had a dog house tho. I always felt like a bear screwing a football working on the topkicks.
They were kinda like a big truck, remove the cooling pack, engine out the front.
The mine only had 2 diesel topkicks. The other 15 had 8.1L gassers. They pounded em so hard #7 coil would squish against the dog house.
And wiring! Mainly due to mud and sand..
I maintain my neighbors chev G van with a 6.6L duramax.
It was a Ritchie bros find. 100% of the history was fort mac. And it shows. I swear this cube van was used to deliver juice boxes to every lunchroom in the north mine.
    Lucky me.

They sure beat the crap out of vehicles up there.

The Topkicks really weren't a great truck IMO. They always wandered, lots of body roll, brakes lasted about 1 oil change during muddy season. If you were lucky they'd get 2 oil changes out of the rotors. Rear axle seals always seemed to leak. They chewed through u-joints at the rear pinion too.

The exhaust brake was pretty wicked though. At around 10,000 kg it'd hold 100-105 down Super Test.

There was lot of em that ended up upside down thats for sure!
Nobody made a 5500 sized truck that was any good. Fords and dodges are too small. The frame flexes on em bad going down the highway.
The topkick was too big. They tried everything to fix the ride. They converted 1 to rear air ride. Didn't work out. The tried a conversion air ride front. It placed an air bag and mount on the slipper side of the front leaf. Literally lasted 17km in the mine.
I cut the bump stops in half during PDI. It made the biggest improvement.
Nothing lasted for brakes. Dually 3500s in the mine during mud season got new brake pads every 2 days. By 600km they would be caliper pistons on rotor fins. Everything gone.
