Saw this question on another website and there was a lot of dis agreement and no one was able to post any links to govts sites that show what traffic or criminal convictions PREVENT you from being able to get a CDL

there is plenty of info available regarding what offenses get your CDL suspended or revoked . But zero information about what prevents you from being eligible to obtain one .

If you haven’t just broke out of prison or murdered someone in the last 6 months Western Express will probably hire you.

That's only if you currently hold a CDL. For someone getting a new CDL the requirements are different. On the federal level I don't believe there is a restriction. I've also not found any on the state level, but I admit that I haven't done a ton of looking.
That said, there is a difference in getting a CDL and getting a job.

    It varies state to state.....

    Washington State's suspension/disqualification page
    https://www.dol.wa.gov/driverslicense/cdlsuspensions.html

The concern beyond CDL suspension/disqualification is employability, which is related to Insurance policy requirements. One of the thresholds for being employed by a company is their insurance must agree to cover the driver under a policy. No policy = no drive.

Laws only tell you what you cannot do.

The posted TX disqualifications are for CDL holding individuals.

I don't think I've ever seen anything preventing a state from issuing a CDL to tested, qualified people.

If the state issued you driving privileges' you should be good.

    austinmike and ZVar Thank this.

    That’s the issue

every state lists the offenses that get your current CDL suspended or revoked

I haven’t found a single one that lists the offenses that PREVENT you from getting one .

i just suggested to te guy that he apply for
A CDL and see what happens .

    said his offenses were all
More than ten years old .

    ZVar Thanks this.

Again, that's only for CDL holders, not for getting a new CDL. Like the Texas post, it mirrors the federal regulation for suspension.

I'm pretty sure they did not do a criminal background check to get my CLP or CDL, but I wonder if they check MVR to see if you have any of the disqualifying traffic offenses.
