If you actually use it for something other than a parking lot there is no charge.

Man everyone thinks people should be forced to provide free parking. It is a business. They want to sell you stuff,if you buy stuff and save your receipt it is free parking.

It takes money to maintain those parking lots.If you are not going to be a customer I have no problem with them charging you for using their facility.

They also want their products brought into their towns and cities, and when our drivers run their clocks out and have nowhere to park because the economy is so bad they dont have a dime left to their name to buy a cup of coffee let alone 20 dollars of stuff to save a receipt to park "free". They need more parking for our drivers, free parking for our drivers. Excuse me, but I think they pay enough by buying the fuel and hyped up "convenience" prices all year long to begin with. so excuse me while i say GIVE 'EM A BREAK!

Good point and you end up paying $20 for stuff that you can buy for $15 or less elsewhere .
But truckstops have all but disappeared and been replaced by travel centers . They have trash cans at the gas pumps that have to be emptied too . Why not put parking meters up front ?
Don't like urine bottles in the trash ? At some places RV's empty their whole sewer tank at the dump site .

I also appreciate the workers at Truck stops and the very few Rest areas that are left in this country. I am a clean female who tends to wipe the toilet seats and sinks before and after use. I hate to see urine bottles and always pick up after my dog!

I haven't ever had to pay to park anywhere, but if it would eliminate all the urine bottles on the ground I just mite. I do appreciate a nice clean place to park.

has anyone ever walked around a lot that u have to pay to park? if so, have u ever noticed all the trash still on the gound? the pee bottles, the pallets, the bags of truck, the empy coffee cups, the amount of paper trash stuck the chain link fence... i have noticed it...
anyone that thinks paying to park will keep the trash out is crazy... paying to park is just another way to make a trucker broke, and the travle centers rich.. thats all

Every one of you have decent points. And I pee in a bottle more than I'd like to admit, but you can't change life time derelicts. There are too many of these out here that slipped through the system pre-deregulation.........
That said, if you are wise with your time, you can park for free in any of the pay to park spots. Time it so you have to eat, or use a service bay, or Idle aire. I think all of them should be a pay to park spot on some level. That being said I think there should be some regs for the truckstops to adhere to. They should have a cleaning crew on the grounds 24/7, along with active (not fat, slow, lazy), security. This security needs to have the balls to uphold the rules of the stop. Also we as drivers need to "lighten up" and stop immediately taking offense to one another. If you see any behavior that you know the driver wouldn't do in his moms house, say something..... if he/she becomes belligerent and tells you to **** off, or mind your own business, then get a manager, or if it's really bad, call the cops. These are the rejects we need to get out of our industry. I would venture to say 90% of people on the road are decent, hardworking folks.........the other 10% need to realize that we won't tolerate them.
I know this will fall on alot of deaf ears, and people are afraid to speak their minds, but we drivers have brought this on ourselves. We need to look at ourselves, and ask am I able to uphold an image that would keep a customer and feed my family? The freight is slow, the pay hasn't been raised in 15 years, and we are under constant scrutiny from all walks of law enforcement. Let's surprise them, and everyone. Take inventory of yourself, evaluate, and then act. If someone you see is humiliating themselves by tossing trash, or a urine bottle, let them know. They wouldn't do this at their Mom's, so why do it where they are?
You only have to see the view dropping off of Donner, or any mountain, to wonder why people treat the national beauty we are lucky enough to get paid to see the way they do.
Hope the next time any of you use a bottle and toss it out on the ground, that you wake up, step out of your truck to find it has frozen and you trip/step on it and bust your ###! You would deserve it IMO..........
