    Hi friends!
I'm here to learn. Hubby and I started a trucking company last year. We leased on to a friend of ours authority. Long story short, like many business partnerships, it didn't go well... lolz My husband is a methodical driver and detail oriented with equipment. So, not that fast yet. They also were sloppy with their money and "lost" over 20k worth of payments on loads that we had to make them find. So, we unexpectedly got our own authority much faster than expected, and are having to learn this industry quickly.

Holy cow its a lot of paperwork! You will probably see me here asking a lot of questions...

Joining OOIDA was the first thing I did! They helped with the authority. I have been super impressed with their service so far.

Hello Miss J you will be so glad you signed up for this forum. There are so many knowledgeable people, it kinda feels like one big family. You may not always get the answer you want but people in general are very friendly but also not afraid to tell you like it is. My husband and I are new company also. Actually we got our own authority last march so almost a year ago and it was the best business decision we could of made. If we can be of assistance we will be glad to do so. My husband follows several people on you tube and got a lot of his knowledge there. Anyways welcome aboard and look forward to seeing your upcoming posts.

Coffey and Miss J Thank this.

Be a great time to buy 3 more trucks,,,I kid, but some folks think this is a great time to buy a truck,,,or 3. The VERY 1st red flag here, is the word "friend". It's frustrating to see people with good intentions get hosed by a "friend". Most here will agree, you don't have many "friends" in the trucking biz, at least when money is involved. Since you've already committed to this fracas, you'll just have to "try again", but people that are thinking of doing this, should really talk to people like you. Take the steam out of their sails in a hurry.
So many great company jobs today, that would cherish a driver like your husband, WITH BENEFITS,,,why in 'tarnation would you want your own?:dontknow:

It is frustrating! We owned a car dealership previously and had good business relationships with friends. This was very disheartening. So, we have to figure our #### out fast!

Thanks for the tips. We've been self employed for a very long time, and I feel like this is the right move for us, but the learning curve is steep!

Congrats! Your better off it happened like that anyway. It’s never been easier to make money then right now so shoot for the stars. Get your stuff paid off and build as big of cash reserves as possible. When things get tough, you’ll be ok. This is a tough business during those down cycles and you’ll have even more to learn.
