Hey gents, need your help.

A few years ago, I had a former female friend get mad at me. She told me that her then 21 year old son, who was gay and on heroine tested positive for AIDS. I was puzzled, “You seem surprised?” Apparently, that was the wrong thing to say.

Today, a friend told me about how someone I know of, had his young adult son get shot and killed when he attempted to rob the wrong person. My friend waited for a response. I shrugged my shoulders. We stood there looking at each each other til he finally huffed and walked away.

What is the proper response?

 

To be diplomatic. But still keep your integrity. Probably just a simple. "Sorry for your loss."

 

Since this person was someone telling you about an event that they themselves are not directly related to, nothing really needs to be said. What are you, supposed to vicariously console the parents through your friend?

Had a first cousin that was a theif on dope and running from the cops. Died in a crash. I had the same answer. The town was better off. I didn't go to his funeral.

 

Well, if that's the case.....I'll go all the way up to $100 US then.

I have zero empathy for stupidity. I have family members that have made the same type of choices.
