Most line haul jobs are home daily. Usually terminal to terminal drop & hook.
    Two examples of line haul.
I know two people that work for different companies. They both do a line haul from Nashville to Indianapolis, drop & hook, and return. Home every day. One hauls air freight and don't know what the other hauls.

Old Dominion, Saia and AAA Cooper seem like home daily for linehaul. For YRC, the terminal
said I would be out 3 to 4 days. Home daily linehaul would be great if I can find. But most ltl companies seem to ask to work on the dock at least 3 months, then start their CDL training, if available. I would understand to work on docks 1 to 2 months. 3 months or more dockwork seem excessive for a prospective driver.

What is with drivers allergy to dockwork? I like the challenge of loading a truck, it's like a game of tetris. Unloading can be annoying. The only real thing I hate is recovering pallets that have been destroyed.

Lol, it might be fun and challenging work actually, which I have no clue, never worked with forklift. The thing is dock to driver programs seem vague. They say after this amount of months on the dock, you will be eligible for CDL training. I don't really trust their promise though, maybe there are other people on the dock before me already waiting for the program. So my CDL training would end up 6 months later or more. I should probably just go to trucking school, get the CDL, then apply directly to linehaul or pd position. I know they mostly want at least 6 months to a year experience. But I might get lucky lol, fingers crossed.

Food service companies is really far to me. They are mostly located in Dallas where the commute is an hour. That's like 2 hours on the road just to reach and come back from the job. I can't seem to find any food service companies in Fort Worth area. Maybe only McLane?

What he said sounds legit. Talk around here is new bids will open in March. Plus there is “utility” P&D which is what I am doing until I can get a route in a couple of months I hope. Doing mostly volume deliveries to nearby distribution centers and volume pickups from customer sites. Today I am on the dock along with several box truck drivers due to not enough loaded to be hauled.

I think a few months of line haul will be great experience. Supposedly the best money and you get good at dropping and hooking sets. They also have the better tractors. Best success to you!

I'm at a smaller terminal but supposedly with the merging of all the other companies we're supposed to get more freight in that 3pl's (box trucks) were taking and they'll be adding more drivers which is good to bump up my seniority! Lol
