1. Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Not sure what Swift would pay, the o/o is paying .34cpm. Also, much less bs to drive for an o/o and a faster truck.

AH. I can certainly understand that. I don't think Swift pays that much starting out. As for less bs, I guess that may depend on the owner? Just judging by your previous posts...Good Luck to you.

Also less benefits with an O/O . Will he be following the tax obligations of an employer or try to illegally stick you with a 1099 ?
Who keeps you driver's file and sets up the random drug testing ?

The last time I drove for him he was doing 1099. So you are saying if Swift withholds taxes, he is required to do so? I heard he was in hot water with the IRS already. After what happened to Arrow, I would hate to lose my truck to a seizure 1000's of miles from home!

The payroll is squirrelly as often he has to pay his drivers with Comdata to be able to make payroll. I just heard from him a few min's ago, he was going to put me with another small carrier he is driving for, but I don't have the required two years. It's Swift or nothing.

With this info, do you think I'm foolish to proceed?

BTW, Swift kept my file and did the random testing, which I believe applies to o/o's as well. There are no benefits, but I'm fortunate to have access to Indian Health benefits as I'm part Choctaw.

I'm sorry, Man, but it just sounds too shady to me, from what I'm reading. I know I don't know the whole situation, but just from what you've written, I would try something else.

I know Swift probably won't start you at .34/mile, but you do have a year experience so I doubt you would start at the very bottom of the scale. A steady pay that isn't "squirrelly", proper tax deductions, regular benefits, no worries about getting the truck seized out from under you. I think all that tops working for someone you don't even like and have had previous problems with. And it sounds like you're already approved by Swift. If it were me, I'd go with Swift, get my time in, work up in the pay scale, and move on when it's time.

    telcobilly Thanks this.

thanks dodge for the advice. Due to dwindling funds and a sense of panic, I must be grabbing at straws and not looking at the pro's and con's objectively enough. I really don't want to be a stocker at costco or wallyworld, at this point I may have to get my sign and cup ready and hit the streets! ;)

I know what you mean. I started a temp job this week just for some spending money. Still looking for a driving job. Two of the companies that told me to call them back in January are now telling me they can't hire me because I was terminated from my last job. Thanks for the snow job. The others, including Swift, I haven't been able to reach the recruiters yet. I call and get their voice mail, leave a message, yet they never call back. I've called them two or three times a day, and just get their voice mail, so I'll keep trying. I do have this one local company that said when they have a truck available, they'll give me a shot. I've called them a couple times this week, but nothing yet. Got my fingers crossed something happens soon.

Hope something happens for you soon as well. Good luck!

Dodge did Swift tell you they wouldn't hire you because of your termination?

    Have you tried Falcon?

Hey Rug, Tried Falcon last month, no dice.

I'm fairly certain that when I talked to Swift last month, I did mention being terminated and they didn't seem to have a problem with it. At the very least that info is on my application. I did get ahold of the recruiter today and she claims to have been trying to reach me as they had an openning for me, but I guess I missed it. I confirmed my number with her, I'm not sure what the problem was. She also needed to know if I had a license before I got my cdl as the dmv has no record of it. So I had to fax her a copy of my old license. I will call back on monday and see what happens. I'll also confirm with them about my termination. I don't want to get blindsided with a dq at orientation because of it. Although, by that time, I will have quit my current temp job, so technically, I should be good.
