So I’m looking to get into the trucking industry, and start a new career that hopefully will be my last.
I’m trying to get into a mega carrier cdl training program.
( I know I can go and get grants/loans to skip working at these places but I’m currently in a homeless shelter with a curfew of 7pm and driving back and forth is not an option because I have no car )
So here’s my issue. Back in 2008 I was pulled over for not having proper registration plates ( new car, drove of the lot in GA and took a trip to KY where I was pulled over ) I was 20 and didn’t know any better. I was given a fix it ticket. Left Kentucky and never returned. It was also the first time being pulled over and given a ticket.
I started applying to mega’s and turns out quite a few of them require TWIC’s.
I’m unable to get a TWIC because once they run my fingerprints, the open case in KY is going to show up and will get denied. I know this because I tried working for a school district a few years back and had to get fingerprinted and was denied.
I’m also afraid of the hair follicle test. Now before I get attack, I have no interest going back to smoking. I quit 3 months ago and know that giving up marijuana in exchange for a career and great money down the road is a no brainer. We all make mistakes and mine was not quitting
sooner before wanting to start trucking.
Any constructive advice is welcomed.
Any recommended trucking companies that don’t require a TWIC AND hair follicle test is welcomed.
I know I can wait another three months and pass the hair test but I’m ready to get out of this #### shelter and start trucking.
I just want to better my life.
Prime Inc, Stevens Trans, TMC, are a no go for me ( applied already, denied)
PAM ( waiting for a couple things to get verified) and just put in an app for Millis Transfer today.
So here’s the issue, or should I say issues

No offense but you probably need to fix your legal issues first. Is there a possibility if you get stopped in KY they will take you in to resolve the legal issue?
LoneRanger, MidWest_MacDaddy, Wattzino and 2 others Thank this. -
Not a question of if you get pulled over, it's a question of when. After all you will be getting inspected at sometime. The high likelihood of having a bench warrant in ky will get you noticed. And not in a good way.
I understand you are not in a good place now, but now is not the time to get in the career. Work on a dock for a few months, make sure you can go without drugs and try in a year. It will also give you time to get the legal issues taken care of.Wattzino and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this. -
Why did Stevens Transport deny you?
Which state are you a resident of now?Wattzino Thanks this. -
The positive side to all this is you can get cleaned up stay off the drugs, fix up any legal matters and you should eventually get a start in the transport industry.TROOPER to TRUCKER Thanks this. -
Lonesome and austinmike Thank this.

All the above is good advice. Timing might not be right yet but a very good goal to have as you move forward.
as mentioned above, maybe a dock job for a few months while you address the old ticket and make sure you can stay off the drugs. Maybe during that time get into a CDL school which will open up a lot more opportunities with carriers that will hire straight out of school.
so maybe set your sights of six month down the line and focus on getting all the ducks in a row which will help you be successful once you are out here.
good luck.TROOPER to TRUCKER Thanks this. -
You need to fix that infraction first. Then look into trucking. Plus it will be enough time for the drugs to get out of your system.
Start drinking a lot of water now and shave everything so your hair can grow back clean by the time you get this done.austinmike and TROOPER to TRUCKER Thank this. -
I’ve never gotten a ticket in my life until that point. I couldn’t call GA and tell them to hurry and send my plates because KY is asking for them.
You’re right, I did create an issue I will never deny that, ever. How would one with no money to travel, if I did leave I would lose my spot at the shelter and be in a bigger pickerel than I’m already in.
I’m already cleaned up, taken with an active medical card. I’m fully aware of why hair follicle tests are given and know that they are not reported to the clearinghouse as of now. I’m also aware of how far hair follicle test go back. I made the choice to quit which isn’t hard if you want something bad enough. I’m not some drug addict, I’m fully aware that getting high and driving is not tolerated, didn’t plan on doing that.
Ps dont take anything I said the wrong way, I’m just replying.austinmike Thanks this.
