there is hundreds of papers and charger designs specific to charging agm batteries.

if you designed chargers, then you know what I’m saying, there is no universal charger profile with battery technology.

Charging an agm with a normal flooded battery charger cooks an agm battery, they require lower current requirements than a flooded battery for this.

I used for years balmar regulators because they have selectable profiles or programs. I went from going through agm batteries every 18 months to having them last five years.

Have you ever installed one in a Chevy Tahoe or Suburban?
I know my charging profile is less than ideal.

No, but the one I have in my beater truck is using a delco si alternator, removed the original one because of the lights on the truck, just follow the install instructions … real easy.

Here is a quick doc for using an external regulator on an SI

We no longer have the cut off switches on out current trucks, there were problems with the earlier ones. When batteries sulfate and quit starting the engine is when they get replaced. 3 years or more is usual.

batteries don't last long in Cascadia because of engine heat. Same batteries last 2x longer in century because they are far away of engine heat.

Here's a comparison of battery types that covers why the charging profiles are different.

What is the Difference Between an AGM, a Gel-Cell, and a Standard Lead-Acid Battery
