Oh, I see now. Yall are talking about hitting deer with a vehicle.
When I was in seclusion in Montana, we would often engage in deer boxing. Also known as "deer hitting", because we didn't wear boxing gloves.
That big nose is not as sensitive as one might think. It will anger the animal, but doesn't have the same effect it has with most humans.
This one guy would always go for the eyes, but not a good move.
First of all, being on the side of their head, it's difficult to get a clean shot. Not only that, deer rely much more on their hearing and their sense of smell than they do their vision.
This one dude liked to use an uppercut to the chin. That area is fairly weak. Doesn't really slow them down though. I think he just liked it when they bit their tongue off.
I found the most effective blow is to the side of the neck. Get the carotid artery just right and you slow down blood flow to the brain causing them to get disoriented. It's a tricky move though. Took me a while to perfect it. I have been gored in the shoulder several times getting that move down.
Some guys like to concentrate on the torso.Gotta be fast though. I've seen many a guy lose a kneecap that way.
You wouldn't think so, but they can be wicked with those hind legs.

Sorry to get so far off topic. It's just not very often I have an opportunity to discuss deer hitting.

Do truckers see animals a lot on their drives? I have a question about a specific type of animal, but I think I may need to start a new thread about it!

    YuP!
    We sure do.
From flyin' condors and eagles to towering elk and moose.
Been where the deer and the antelope play.
See 'em alive and as roadkill too.
And they don't call I-75 in southern Florida
    "Alligator Alley" for no reason
    .
Wouldn't be a jackalope would it?

    Where's your new post?

I dont feel the least sorry for deers that get hit. If they cant read the "Deer Crossing" signs and cross where they're suppose to, then they need to stop staring at us before we "bump" them.

Hubby had an owl take off his drivers side mirror.

I had a boss that drove a silver 1966 ford pickup. He never drove the speed limit, and alway said that he was going to die in that pickup. Well, it came true one day, he was doing about 90 down a gravel road and a pheasant came through the windshield, he rolled the pickup and it killed him. He was only like 48 at the time too. Sad. :biggrin_25513:

Pheasants are treacherous. I've almost nailed a whole flight at once and would have if I'd been driving like a farmer.
