Excuse me, for not reading through the thread, but I have a few words...
I just went through a school. I chose it for the quick turn around time and the fact that I didn't have to pay for it due to the forthcomings of the WIA program.
My experience is that of feeling that I was completely ripped off. DO NOT go to private schools or company training outfits to get started!!
Go to your local community college or applied technology center for your training. They will do a much better job of it, and it will cost you thousands of dollars less to say the least!!
Disregard this message to your own detriment and regret. Maybe you are just masochistic by nature?
company school or driving school?

I retired from behind a desk after 30 years and is the LAST thing
I want to go back to. Desking it ! ! - I've always liked driving and
wonder what possibilities there are at age 58 ?? -
Decide what company you want to work for and go talk to them. They may train you for a CDL A, or recommend a good school for you to go to.
The first decision on which company to work for is whether you want to drive local (be home every night) or OTR (you will have no life outside of driving). -
Flbadger, you paid $800 for a class B? I live in Michigan/Wisconsin and the class B doesn't require a road test. Just written, and pay $30+ . You have ties to Wisconsin per chance?

Whoops! Disregard that. I guess i did take a road test, but i trained on employers bus first. So it didn't cost me. Sorry.

I'm trying to get ahold of a Recruiter from Roehl
as this seems to be the "Best" trucking co. that
I keep hearing about ?? - -
I'm checking out SAGE School at Lake City Fl
community college - Is 200 miles from where I live in Central Florida - sooo I would then pay out $35 per day to stay in one of their dorms
for 3 - 4 weeks. - Cost comes out about the same as the near by Sanford TDI school -
I have been studying and doing alot of research on trucking. I went by Roadmaster in Florida to inquire about attending their school. After doing alot of reading and research, I find that alot of truckers think that training schools is a ripoff. I have NO experience in driving trucks, so I feel I need to attend a training school. Is there anyone out there that attended Roadmaster?

After my intense research I felt that Roehl was the BEST company to work for, thus also the best to train with. 3 weeks and $2400 gets you your CDL. Thereafter you are getting paid. And they will cover you if you work for them and that is pro rated in case you don't stay. Looks like I'll be in Marshfield, WI on 11/26 to get the ball rolling if the DOT physical goes well on Wed 11/7.
Feel free to contact me at dennnisarner at yahoo dot com for more info.
Quality means alot to me. That's why I chose Roehl. -
Just my two cents worth here. The WIA program is GEAT. I am in class right now and 4 students are in the program. It does not cost them any thing. It does not cost any thing to find out any way. Also if you will look at some of the companies, you pay for your training and they will train your wife for free, but they own you for 1 year. So if you want to out up with BS for (1) year or more then let the company paid for it. If not do what ever you can to pay for it yourself. That is what I am doing.
But just my 2 cents worth.
