Hunt Transportation DAC

Thank you Flathead. I hope you don't mind me asking if you had any sort of experience before signing on to Hunt. Do they accept students? Do you know if crete frown on applicants or company drivers who look into crossing that bridge?? Thanks again.

 

As a matter of fact, TMC was my first application but they turned me down..., I also tried Roehl. I know flat-bedding sux right now but it will be an experience of a lifetime. I wonder if Hunt will retrieve my application from Crete and go from there, that way I don't have to go through all the shenanigans and verifications that comes with processing my application.

 

scoppiorias, the approval process seems to take forever, but that's pretty normal. You will be assigned to a trainer's truck for I believe 8 weeks, at $500/week. Then you will go to orientation and be assigned your own truck. I have tanker endorsements, but of no real benefit.

 

amen on the approval taking forever. the hold on mine was the former employers dragging their feet on responding to verification requests. i called the recruiter yesterday to check on things, then 20 minutes later i got a call from Linda. she handles the apps before they get sent to the Safety dept. i was told i will have an answer monday. i also asked that seeing how the app has gone this far, is there any reason i should be worried for a denial? the reply was no. i will probably be in Marietta the end of next week.

i was also told that the HAZMAT is required (by the recruiter) before you can get in the truck with a trainer. that is the one thing i have read conflicting stories about. some say 45 days others say you have to get it right away.

i am going with the reefer side too btw. i filled out the application on cdljobs.com and Schaffer contacted me. there has been no mention of Hunt, but i was told that if i wanted to step to the dry van at any time, just let my driver manager know and they would take care of that.

 

I speak from my experience. I graduated from SCC Lincoln, NE where Crete hires out of. Dec 15, 2007 to be exact. I had applied with Hunt Transportation (flatbed division of Crete Carrier) but due to the lack of available trainers this time of year and to get the ball rolling, I trained with Crete Carrier in a dry van for 8.5 wks due to my lack of combination vehicle experience. I packed as guided, loaded up with my 1st trainer and away we went. First couple of days, rode shot gun to get acclimated to the truck. Then got to drive a bit here n there. You will initially get to shower off of your trainers fueling points untill you get your own rewards card for Pilot, Loves, TA ect. Most showers aren't bad but I highly recomend you have shower shoes. After about 3wks my trainer wanted to get me approved to drive full time and I told him I didn't think I was ready and he said, "that's ok, if you get tired I'll drive on your clock." I was only his 2nd or 3rd student and this was clearly not who I wanted to train me. So after speaking to Brent back at Crete, got another trainer. After a few days home, away we went for the last 5.5 weeks. Usually they try to split it down the middle, four and four. This trainer rarely drove unless we needed to get some where above and beyond my allowed driving time. Taught me PTI, qualcom, logs, planning trips, what to watch for and had weekly reviews. This was more better.
I remember it seemed to take for ever for my application to be approved, but once it was, away I went. So when I got back, I had to attend the 3 day orientation at Crete even though I originally applied to Hunt. Something to do with finishing the Crete training, and then transfer over to Hunt. But be careful, I applied with Hunt in the previous Nov and by the time it was time to go to Hunt I had to fill out another application because it had been over 6o days since my 1st application.
You won't get any tanker or flatbed experience driving for Crete, you would have to transfer to a sister company. Crete is comprised of Crete=Dry Van, Schaffer and Sunflower=Reffer and Hunt=Flat Bed. If you lack any previous driving, I recomend Crete due to the fact my trainer taught me the right way which has treated me well in my short career. I'm going to give hunt a try, Apparently , there have been some changes there. They now have medical, dental, vision, and disability for drivers. Hunts orientation is 2 days. + a rental car meals and motel for the orientation.

I've been driving for a long time, if things are not on the up and up, doesnt bother me at all to walk out of their orientation. Stay Tuned

 

They've had those benefits since I first applied back in 2008 as Hunt is the flatbed division of Crete Carrier Corporation. Blue Cross Blue Shield at the time. And yes there have been some changes as I keep my eyes and ears open. Starting pay for new drivers up to 3 years experience is at .39/mile. And they have been upgrading to newer tractors and trailers. Now that life has run it's course with my parents (may they rest in peace) I am able to run the country again. So I am keeping tabs on them as my experience grows. Good luck to you

 

I currently work for Hunt and if you have any questions just ask and I will let you know. We also just got another pay raise effective 4-1 of $.02, and we have 35 new trucks in Omaha just waiting for some drivers, and also have new trailers, and yes life is pretty good here.
