Paper Work Bottleneck

I'm my biggest bottleneck! Get done driving and usually the last thing I want to do is paperwork or similar administrative chores. That said, one of the reasons I'm a company driver and not an O/O. Alot more paperwork as an O/O and I have enough difficulty getting the little I have accomplished.

 

In the beginning there is soooooo much paper work. Day in and day out. But once you get in the grove.

 

There are so many options to keep track of pprwk, it is not even funny.
Simplest thing is to create an Excel file for each trip where can be written loads, routes, fuel, general expenses, dates, quantities, amounts, etc. At the end of the day, or in the morning while waking up, or after load is done and waiting, to each his own, open the file, write everything down, 10-20 minutes time, close and forget about it. When it is time to do the taxes, you have everything in one place.

 

Omg, you drive for 11 hours and then work on paper work for another 11 hours every day.

Seriousy!!

it takes an owner anywhere between 20 and 40 minutes every other day to get through paper work with a couple hours a month to do other paper work housekeeping with a few hours at tax time,

get into good habits, it takes time to build those habits.

get organized. Get some simple system (there are many of them described on the internet).

know where every piece of paper’s place goes.

get a binder for just the truck permits, insurance papers and registration, this makes you look good with dot enforcement officers.

Don’t just stick paper work into an envelope and forget about it.

 

It can get overwhelming if you don't keep up on it. I use trucking Office to keep everything organized, it also does your IFTA. A friend of mine uses his GPS for IFTA.
