Have a 2002 c-12 serial# 2KS94598 in a freightliner cst112 . Data plate says adv-380 hp and max hp 395. Called Ohio cat to see about a ecm flash and they said it was 395hp and they could only take it to 410. Didn't even get to a price as I didn't think 15hp was worth the hassle and he also said he doubt I would feel 15hp. I was kind of thinking when I called that 430 was an option and would be worth the reflash but I guess it's not. So where do I go from here to get some more power?? I see others say they have 430 c-12's but maybe it takes different injectors to get there? By the way this is not an over the road truck, just our farm's hopper truck and get's about 15K miles max a year.
c-12 395hp isn't enough

Whats the differance in Torque?
-
Search the fuel temp wire and boost wire mod. There worth about 15-20hp on that motor and 150-200 ft/trq
-
Theres some good emerg/ rv files that would give you 455 or 505 hp but only 1550 torque. There is 430hp 1650 torque for that engine.
-
I would rather have torque that HP. Can the block, head, and bottom end hold up to that in a C-12?
-
DDS is right, the early 1YN prefix C12 could only go to 410hp, 9NS and 2KS prefix engines can go to 430.
DDS, is it possible to use the R/V emergency files in a truck? I was told it was not possible because the file will derate the power if the engine load factor is too high when its in a high load application like a truck rather than a low load application like an R/V.
The uprate to 430 will make a difference, good fuel settings will help also.
C12s can handle a fair bit of power, C12 marine engines make 705hp. -
I have not had derate problem, but also heard talk of it. I do not think Cat would write derate in the an emerg file, would not want a fire truck derating on the way to a fire...lol. I was told by a CAT engineer the only difference in a reg file to an emerg file was that the emerg file will give full hp all the time, coolant temperature did not matter.

Thanks for the responses guys. Well it looks like my truck is capable of having a 430hp flash if I can find the right person to talk to. Maybe I'll call a different location next time. I went ahead and ordered the fuel and boost wire yesterday so I'll see how that goes first. DDS I would try the 455 file but If I'm thinking correctly my transmission is a eaton rto 14...something, it's an autoshift. From what i read in eaton literature it says my tranny is only good for 1400 ft./lbs. Is it best to keep the power below what they rate the trannys for or is that a lenient figure?
-
The transmission is why the dealer will not uprate, They will not flash above transmission rating, they do not want to have to pay to fix it after failure, its happened up here, gone to court, customer will win.....
I have not flashed any auto shift, but settings on the Cat side say the same so I do not see a problem, the 455 or 505 torque would be better for that transmission of the line, and the hp would get you over the hill. -
Watch the running the boost harness. The boost harness will take care of the turbo lag, but it will also add soot to the oil and cause higher fuel consumption at idle. As for the ECM flash...I would follow what DDS and Jas are saying and if you can't find anyone to flash it check in to the Bully Dog Downloader. I think they are offering the downloader for the C-12.
