landstars problem is the highway robbery percentage. the rates USED to be high enough that it worked out but not any more.
I went to a small produce company. I get 90% of the gross, I pay insurance and plates. although he gave me a plate with 5 months left on it to get me started.
my first week I made about 2.5 times more then my best week ever at landstar and the second week I doubled the best week.
the freedom of landstar is great but if you can't make a living it doesn't much help does it?

    volvodriver01 Thanks this.

trailer and fuel doesn't come anywhere close to costing me 25%

I'm paying $800mo for the trailer on a 12 month note. the last two weeks I've grossed over $11k that's what???? 3.5% or something like that... Ya, I'l take the new gig anyday thanks

My reefer fuel costs translate into roughly .01 cent per mile.

I use christmas fuel btw, which is about .50 cents/gallon cheaper than taxed juice.

Landstar is who I am interested in going with. Does anyone know if they do any reefer hauls. I like hauling food, has to always be hauled. We are leasing a truck from another company and hope to buy it at the end of our lease and go somewhere else once the truck is paid off.

I like hauling food too so much that i work for a food broker, but with restaurants and grocery stores not being able to pay their bills,i am short on hauling stuff even though i am a company driver and they pay everything the hours are way down.2-3 days a week don't pay the bills.
