Come on people. The deceased driver was 64 years old. Could’ve been a coronary, diabetic shock, stroke, aneurism, etc., etc.

He hit him on the corner. Probably distracted driving, drifted to the right at the wrong time.
The can hauler can invent a story as to why he was there, check engine light came on, low air pressure, anything. Almost impossible to check. He has a few minutes before he is required to put out triangles. If he had his flashers on, also hard to check, he was within the law. -

All of those possibilities will be able to be determined at autopsy.

They can check the ELD to see how long the truck was sitting. If it’s more than 10 minutes and he didn’t have triangles deployed it won’t bode well for him.Boondock, Trucker61016, Grouch and 1 other person Thank this.

Brings up a question I've had for a while. As a new jack straight out of CDL school, they basically beat four way flashers and triangles into our heads.
Curious as to why I frequently see trucks on the (often narrow) shoulder next to the interstate without either of those two things going on?Boondock Thanks this. -
i don't know why either but yes, at the school(s) i taught at, 4 way flashers, then get out and set up triangles ASAP.
"ignorance" can be one thought.
"only gonna be there for a minute", is another -
That stretch of road is part of my routine lane that I have run for the last twenty years.
I also have routinely seen trucks parked on the shoulder there and every other lane that I run and never have run in to the back of one?
In my opinion if you leave the legal driving lane and are flying down the shoulder and hit something you are the problem.
Change the object on the shoulder to Parked car, police car, fire truck, pedestrian, tree, guard rail, ect. and it’s still never okay to hit something on the shoulder.
The only sad but understandable reason is the driver had a medical event.Boondock, Val_Caldera, mjd4277 and 2 others Thank this. -
I'll see your theory of distracted driving and raise it to.....wayyyyyyy tooo fast!!!. He put a good dent in that can.Boondock and Trucker61016 Thank this.

I couldnt even tell what might have been the remains of the tractor.
Boondock Thanks this. -
White Tractor, Forward of Trailer. Drives Still Hooked To Trailer, Turned Sideways.
Plausible to figure Right Side, say Center Of Hood or to Left Of, Exploded Like Plastic & Aluminum Does, then Physics, From Moving Into A Stationary Object At A Specific Speed (maybe 70+), Took Over.
"Distracted Driving or Medical Event or Suicide".Boondock Thanks this. -
Well thats why you get your triangles out.........Boondock Thanks this.
