Hello - I'm 25 years old & just graduated (11/23/09) from the New Endgland Tractor Trailer Training School's 480hr program. I've passed my MA CDL A test and am now looking for a job. It seems the major national carriers (Swift, JB Hunt, etc) aren't hiring. I'd prefer OTR but I'll take most anything that will lead to a driving job at this point. I've probably contacted dozens of companies both local & nationwide with no luck. If anyone out there is willing to take a chance on a rookie I'm willing to do the job. Thanks for your attention.

Attention employers: We now require a valid DOT# for anyone wishing to post a driving position. If your job offer doesn't contain a DOT number, it will not get past moderation and will not appear in the forum. The other requirements in the sticky at the top of this section are still required as well. Thank you for understanding.

Just graduated 2 months ago ? If you don't find something soon OTR companies will say you need a refresher course . Have you tried moving companies ? It's a slow season for them but they aren't as tough on their hiring policies .

Roehl, Western Express (sucks) lives in the NE, did you have any recruiters stop in at your school?
My school had a big drawer full of applications for lots of companies.
Like Rick said you need to get hired quick or you will have to do a refresher course.Last edited by a moderator: Mar 4, 2013

I called every moving company I could find in Eastern MA. They were for the most part very polite but they ALL said "Call back in March" - not unexpected but disappointing none-the-less.
NETTTS doesn't seem real helpful in job finding. That's too bad because I did like the training I got.
Ah well - I'll just keep plugging along. -
I also graduated from NETTTS and I feel your pain. It has been since September and no luck with NETTTS and no jobs out there. I have called and spoke to everyone I can even local construction companies, moving companies, etc... If I were to mention all the companies I spoke with it would be a huge post. At least NETTTS will give you a refresher at no charge supposedly.

I think this has always been the case in that area. In '96, I went to CR England's school in NJ. Found out real quick what they were like, went home and went to a school that was in Bridgewater. Don't think it was NETTS but could have been. They weren't much help then, either, and that was when freight was good and there was a driver shortage.
The big problem is that MA (and most of NE) is like FL, a good amount of freight in, but not much coming out. That seems to make most companies not want to hire from there, tough to get drivers home. Before I moved away, I was with 2 out of state companies, Barr-Nunn and Metal Transportation Service. Both gave me the get home promise, but it was false. Barr-Nunn made the promise on a contract they hoped to get in the area. When they didn't get it, getting home was almost impossible. MTS did get me home, but wouldn't deadhead me out of the area, so if I did go home, I could be there for 2,3, 4 days, or longer, waiting on a load. Nice to be home, but not making any money. I did finally get on with a guy with a small fleet in Oxford (I think) that was real good to work for, till I moved out of state.
Best bet is to contact all the larger companies like Werner, US Xpress, CR England, etc.. and be prepared to stay away from home a lot. Get your time in and then look at the better companies.
Either that, or move out of Taxachusetts to somewhere on a good freight lane.

You might try lumber companies. That is where my hubs got started. They have trucks that require a CDL to drive.

Schwans Food Delivery in Sutton is accepting applications but I don't know if they hire inexperienced drivers .
