For what it's worth... we bought some lightweight tarps from peakstarps. They are made from Cordura nylon fabric (same as luggage and backpacks). When they tear they don't continue to rip but fray. Being light they tend to flap more violently in the wind then 18oz. tarps. As with all other tarps you have to be careful a sharp edges. My biggest complaint is ease of repair (lack of). Took forever to get ahold of the guy to get some extra material sent to patch holes. You have to glue the material on and the seller couldn't advise what would be best to use other than superglue. This would be too costly. Did some research and found a product called "seamgrip" which is used to fix tents and backpacks, etc. It comes really highly rated and can be purchased at Bass Pro shops and online at Amazon. It is similar to rubber cement.
Well after using these tarps for the last two years ( have two sets with 8' drops ) all four look like the sails on a pirate ship. During the holiday I started patching and this Seamgrip works. Tried gorilla glue and mighty mendit before and those didn't work at all.
Probably won't buy these type of tarps again, but if you get em, that is how you repair them without having to sew.

Now I have some vinyl tarps to repair. Found some repair kits at HarpsTarps for $42 a piece.

One point no one has mentioned yet. If you can, try to buy your tarps from somewhere you can pick them up on your way through so you can save on freight charges. Just an idea.

I got a great set of tarps a few months ago for a company called Capitol Tarps in Sacramento, Ca. after having a set of tarps stolen off of my truck. The guy made them while I waited (about 4 hours) and the quality is first rate...

Last night when I stopped in Phillipsburg it was 29*.....
I thought "Great.....the hides froze up and there won't be any smell or mess"......
Nope.....got into Hastings and it was 40*+.......

I don't mind seeing sausage being made.....but the hide processing is just plain nasty....:biggrin_2552:

Tri City Canvas in St Louis is great. I love their 4 way tarps. They are very reasonably priced and have everything you could need for a flatbed.
