It wasn't 50%.. it was 50k on a new 200k truck 25%.. I was gonning off the numbers @Articfox posted. I have not checked into buying a new truck myself I have no desire to get strapped down to payments that will most likely be causing costly emissons problems long before the payments are finished

He pulls a reefer and has already paid for the truck, and could likely sell today for more than he paid.
Anybody with half a brain in trucking can make a lot of money right now, but a correction is coming. Maybe a year, maybe three, but it's coming.
I'll still be happy I'm debt free when it comes.SL3406, Boondock, Last Call and 1 other person Thank this. -
Everybody, with business ambitions, driving trucks for a living plays with an idea of doing it on their own. Hence new owner operators.
There is never a good time to get in. When the rates are low and the equipment is widely available - it is bad time due to rates, so it is bad time now when the rates are good and there is nothing to buy.
From my experience, I suggest to enter the field when everyone is #####ing and moaning about rates and when the "say not to cheap freight" slogans are on everyday forums topics. On the condition that you have enough cash to tough out through $1.5 per all miles times, which never last too short not to feel it.Last edited: Feb 4, 2022

To add, with great equipment and ambitions, find YOUR place in the market. Do what others are not willing to do and do it better than any living person. Even if you come a little short to that extreme you will make a place for yourself and do well if there is a need for your service. No, I don’t mean do it cheaper. Do the more difficult tasks very well. This industry is ripe with laziness. Use that to your advantage. Quality before anything else.

I hear yah guys on the old truck, parts are cheap, etc but just because your truck is old doesn’t mean that the parts aren’t going to run out. Are they going to focus more on newer truck parts or older truck parts when it comes to replenishment?
Im just playing devils advocate here..blairandgretchen, Boondock, Siinman and 1 other person Thank this. -

Buddy of mine runs old iron and has to wait a month for the inframe rebuild parts. It’s hitting us all these days.
