One of my favorites is when I am all alone, and I hear someone calling my name. Or what about the radio that you set to scan, and does not find any stations for 20 minutes, then finally finds one. It is very unsettling at first until you figure out what is going on. Kind of wakes you up a little.

One night about 2:30 -3:00 in the morning I was driving along talking with the Lord. "Dear Lord, its me, Randall. Forgive me for my sins, and anything else I may have done thats not pleasing to you. Lord, I've been talkin to you alot here latley, and I havent heard anything back. I need to know what to do about my current situation, so if you would Lord, please tell me something, anything, just say somethin so I can hear you and know its you." At this very moment I took hold of the gearshift and proceeded to shift to another gear. Unaware the jake was on I slid into neutral, let the clutch out, and got the scare of my life. With both windows down, dual exhaust, Detroit motor (if you heard it you would swear it was a cummins) Man that rattled me. I was all over myself there for alittle bit. I'll bet the big man upstairs got a good laugh at my expence over that one, I still laugh when I think about it. I have never seen a black dog, although back when the pills were popular, I have seen what I thought were brake lights from a car infront of me, and had the feeling like I was driving up hill constently.

The dispatchers and carriers that push drivers to cover more miles than it's legal to run according to HOS rules are worse than black dogs.

I've never see an actual black dog, although I was running hard in AK about 1130pm and was so tired that I swerved to miss a herd of deer. It was when I was in the oncoming lane that I realized that it was my high beams on the fresh tar road patch.

I used to get a spooky sensation after seeing a black dog when I was trying to drive over my body's physical limits. I've seen something that's similar in the pic, but it was either running across the highway or along the shoulder. Those black dog days are nothing but a faint memory now, but I'm still creeped out by the memories.

Never saw the black dog but used to work nights sleep days for Bestway then Dugan and if I didn't get at least a few hours of good sleep I would see a dwarf hitchhiking but when I looked in the mirror as I went by it was always one of those 4 ft high plastic reflectors any night I saw the dwarf the third time I saw him I'd shut down for at least a 20 Min nap that was my warning sign, it's different for anyone who pushes fatigue hard, but mine was the dwarf.:biggrin_25514:

The BLACK DOG is different for each person. Once you recognize that it is your defense that is trying to warn you.

I participate in several different things which push your endurance, some are held on a road racing course, One which was my favorite is called the Iron Butt Association which is like coast to coast in 40 hours on a bike. In any case its about learning your limits and how to manage fatigue.
