I had mine replaced from original & 1.1 mil miles. eaton super 10. I am told that 10 spd trans last longer cause there is less moving parts to break or wear thain in a 18 spd.

something to think about... A friend of mine who has owned & worked on trucks for 30 years bought a freightliner one day. took a test drive. all was well... except... when he pulled his 1st load the clutch started slipping. there was no sign of needing a clutch when test driving, bob tailing, but pulling a load.. thats when it showed. this guy was a seasoned mechanic & driver. luckily he made the trip & back. I was with him. so have to consider that too. I remember reading on a co, called bell trucks in south bend IN, looking online at their trucks for sale. they have loaded trailers on their yard for you to pull on test drives on any truck your interested in, so you can see how it is under a load. only co, I ever heard offer this.

I'll stick my 2 cents in
If you can pull the inspection cover off you can see how much material is in the bottom of the housing. and if you can see the threads on the pressure ring you can tell how far it has been turned in to compensate for wear. as stated by previous posters a clutch shouldn't wear out due to plate wear, another clue is pedal/linkage wear if it was double clutched the springs will be tired. the condition of the clutch brake surfsces gives a good clue as to the quality of drivers the truck has had
