    Interesting...
Also, would it be not true to say that good rates always happen when the Democrats run the country?
    Asking rethorically...

    Beaver9 Thanks this.

Yes, your rhetoric does hold some value. Democrats spend a lot, create deficit and everything is more costly. Republicans then are trying to fix what dems did, and it takes a hit on everyone as well as trucks, everything gets cheaper, cuz more accessible. Not always though.

The reality is, rates may drop, but inflation isn't going anywhere because of the idiots at the Fed and in DC. You need to go in and have a civil conversation with them--preferably non-threatening. You need to explain your numbers, tell them you don't want to leave, you like being loyal, but even if rates fall through the floor, that inflation is here to stay for the foreseeable future and, at the very least, isn't priced into markets just yet because of all the other competing factors. This is the god's honest truth, we truckers are in a precarious spot right now, because if rates do crash for any other reason it will take a little while for us to see equilibrium with inflation.

That said, start socking away money, preferably into other assets besides dollars.

Your customer is in business and knows cost are going up and if you haven’t already raised your price he is 1) not going to remind you too. 2) wondering why you have not done so already. 3) he released that you have him over a barrel because he can’t just go down to the dealership and get a class 8 and higher a driver who doesn’t want 5k signing bonus to replace you with. 4) when he calls a broker they will be taking their pound of flesh off the deal. So just raise you rates and tell him it’s maybe temporary and if cost go down you will continue to treat him right. He will still respect you in the morning.

Rates are actually not that great right now really. 4 dollar a mile freight sounds great until your fuel price is up 50 to 75%, parts are up about the same, if you can even get them. We all know what the price of new equipment has done. Rates are simply where they should be, and there's still plenty of geniuses who think you should be happy with 2.50 a mile.

Should had done this a long time ago. One man operation needs to make as much as they can when working. Why give away your service?

I would explain the situation, give them an opportunity to raise their rates. If they don't bring up the rates, then it is time to move on.
