Cost of a good used DDEC 4 12.7?

I currently have a 96 W STAR my DDEC 3 12.7 is on its way out, I’ve been looking at used engines and I’m just wondering what a good used 12.7 take out engine should cost me, a 95 through 02 will work DDEC 3 or 4 doesn’t matter to me, I don’t run logs just trip sheets. I’ve done all work on it myself but lack the tools or knowledge for complete engine removal and reinstall. Thanks for any info. Keep em rollin

 

Well I found a 02 12.7 MK 470 it’s sat for a year or 2 ,670k miles truck had a cab fire and this guy bought it from insurance company He said it ran good at time of fire but that’s all he knows. Very trustworthy man, has no reason to lie to me( he’s loaded ) but it’s mine for 5k. Any thoughts on this price, seems fair to me.

 

He also has a 99 BK that got hot complete engine, and a 97 PK that Is mixing fuel in the oil complete engine also. I’ve found a treasure chest of Detroit’s at least for parts

 

Thanks for the info. I live in rural Eastern Kentucky they are hard to find around here so I bought it. Hopefully it works out if not I’m back to company driving. I don’t think I’d buy another truck in today’s double the price market unless something falls in my lap cheap. Hopefully they go down a bit

 

I got the engine being installed currently and my 96 WStar is a bit different than a 02 Columbia. Mine has a big threaded bolt and nut for belt tightening , this one has a tensioner and a metal water line that goes in front or the gear case. Not sure what that is for but I’d say my hardware will bolt on. I’m jumping from DDEC3 to 4 but mechanic has computer software for Detroit

 

Is this how all freightliners are set up mine doesn’t have this metal line in front of the engine. I’ve got to sand and paint gear case all the old paint is flaking off and some surface rust. Looks ugly but ran strong, that acc drive is just stuck in there to keep debris out I’ve got to put my old one in there
