Mobo's can be finicky when it comes to the USB for it's flash. I have an older 2.0 4GB drive that I use for those type of tasks. I was also afraid of that issue regarding the CPU. Not all companies have the same standards when it comes to that (they should) "No need to install" update function. But I didn't say anything since I have been using Gigabyte for years, but will freely admit, I never did an update to Bios without the CPU. So I didn't want to throw false info out there... Besides what can you do when the website and the box says you can do it, right?

But at least you will be able to get yourself up and running shortly. You can tweak it as you find out what you need/want.

Also... Post a pic of the final build when your done.

 

Yeah using the new USB and renaming the file had it work properly to flash the BIOS. However, something I failed to realize is the CPU I have doesn't have an onboard GPU. So I can't get a display to see the BIOS and set it to boot from USB. Need that to install the OS. So I just have to wait until I get my GPU which will be beginning of next month. But everything else is ready to go. Including the Arctic liquid Cooler.

Do you have someone you can borrow a GPU from to finish it up. I have 2 older GPU's that I keep just for troubleshooting. Maybe someone has one you can grab for a day/week or so?

I love all the stuff you guys are working on. These are great machines.

I am kind of getting out of the supercharged computer world and into the simple software side.

I have quite a decent gaming computer, but I find it runs so much better when it's not being partially used to spy on me for microsoft. Lol

That is the double-edged sword of good hardware. They always want a piece of the action.

I run a server that rests at 7w and jumps all the way up to 60w at heavy load...roughly the electricity consumption of an old light bulb.

So yeah. That's the end result of my latest tinkering. It's all a lot of fun.

I use an onn Roku TV for the monitor.

I love the case. Very solid and good dust covers. I removed the drive bays and optical drive bays. Moved the back fan to pair it with the front. The AIO is roof mounted. Pull through the front and exhaust through the top. It'll keep me from worrying about dust from the top. Cuz it doesn't have a dust cover.

Wiring is as pretty as I could get it. But still a lot messy.

Case and monitor are still showing NJ. everything else is split between PDX and Tacoma. Wouldn't be so bad but I live halfway between those 2.

 

Why? Is there a shortage on 980 Pro's?

Edit: Why Ryzen? God, I'm not even sure I want to ask. I'm Intel/Nvidia all the way. *eye twitch*...
