How is the 02 MK edition it’s a 470 like my GK is, does it have piston coolers or is that for the better models I thought they went to 500hp with the ddec4
Cost of a good used DDEC 4 12.7?

I found out today that my 02 MK does have piston cooling nozzles but still not sure what the factory torque setting is. It’s 470@2100, hopefully can hook to ecm soon and see if it has a tune or not. Also not sure if it’s the iron or steel pistons
77fib77 Thanks this. -
Should have steel pistons, and 1650 torque
Old dirty trucker and 77fib77 Thank this. -

My front cover is in bad shape. It made it to 2 million with no rebuild, I’m going to rebuild it wile it’s on the ground and have a backup but a DDEC 3 to a 4 is a good upgrade and some companies need eld year compliance. Truck isn’t a 2000 or newer but engine is, or put my old valve cover on new engine (who changed a engine not me officer)
RefMata, Rideandrepair and 77fib77 Thank this. -
Thanks 77fib77 for the info

When the 14L came out, it started at 500hp. 12.7 went back to being 470hp Max. It was sometime around 02-03 maybe that’s why the new engine is a 470. Just an idea. Either way, 470 always had better fuel economy. Must be the injectors. Don’t know. Not sure about the newer ones. Pistons are 16:1 on 99 BK and newer. Not sure when, but they had 17:1 pistons later. Maybe Marine only. Don’t know for sure. Just some things to consider. If blocked drilled, rebuild kits come with new nozzles. You can rebuild with a BK kit. Pk pistons cause the white smoke, till warm. Probably from the LO NOX reprogramming that supposed to be done at overhaul. Might want to find a drilled block, pre 2000, to build the original. They also have drilled rods available. Be nice to build it your way, instead of most shops, that will only replace with original. Any of them are fine, as long as your not going racing. Higher HP tunes, need the best stuff. So I’ve heard. Haven’t had mine tuned yet. Kind of Leary about it all.

The engine had coolant and oil in it still that looks good but who knows, I’m chancing it with no rebuild. How do these prices sound, engine removal and install $3700, engine rebuild $2650 plus kit price
