What should I ask the tire shop to give me for my used steer tires? Tread is half worn, but tire is missing chunks, so I think it could be unsafe and am replacing them.

35-75 bucks if casings are acceptable and can be retreated.
If they are off brand China or low tier American. Probably worth 0.Mike250rs Thanks this. -
Bridgestone

Depends on the chunks missing, and the size. A pic would help, but the 35-75 mentioned is close.
-
Just tread chunks. Trash Bridgestone throws a chunk every time a rock gets stuck
-
I usually just tell them to take them so I don’t have to deal with them, or we put them on a different truck in the yard that doesn’t get used as much until they dry rot off
-
My plan was to keep them until I buy my own trailer, but I am not sure if missing chunks pass for inspection
-
If they pass inspection should have no trouble getting 50 bucks credit for them. They also make for great drive tires when you are looking for a tire to match tread depths and it's too early to replace them all. When you take them off the steer and put them on either the drive or trailer they wear like steel.RubyEagle Thanks this.

I have super singles lol my steer tires are single use for me, sadly.sealevel Thanks this.

I got stopped at the scale in Grass Lake Mi one time with a trailer tire that spit the tread off. It looked like it had been buffed to be recapped already but it was holding air. Because it wasn’t flat or leaking they had to let me go.
