Need info on bull hauling*******

Wow, 60 psi is about 80,000 gross. Years ago when the fine for no log book was about $15 we would just pay it and go on. We were an Oklahoma hauler (Davis Bros.) so anytime we got pulled over, we just acted stupid and they would usually get tired of explaining themselves after a time.

Kinda like when I had to go over the portables about 253,493 times to get it right. I was about 23 and couldn't get the hang of letting out the clutch slow so they could get a good reading as I rolled across them. At least I couldn't until my dad, uncle, cousin and all the others got passed us. That is when I started understanding them much better.

I only weighed 135,000 LBS.

Stock hauling pays relatively well for several reasons, not the least of which is you gotta know stock and how to handle them while on the road. You can kill or maim stock real easy if you don't know jack about them. That's why most bull haulers are country boys that have been around stock for years. Think your load of fried pickles is expensive? Screw up a load of Holstein dairy cows and watch the dollars roll out of your pockets.

Besides which, ya notice bull haulers ain't real popular with other truckers? Couple of times I've been sleeping inna truckstop an had a load of pigs park beside me. Peeyewww!!! Plus they fight (the pigs I mean). There's a sound that will bring you outa your bunk. Sounds like someone being brutally murdered.

Other hazards too. Years ago, I was parked at Gill's Truckstop in Quebec city. I noted a load of cattle pul up beside the restaurant. Short while later Gill's wife pulls in with her white/white Caddy convertable with the top down. This car is her baby. She's about 5 ft tall with red hair..... deadly combo with a French Canadian lady.

Minutes after she's gone inside I see a jet of brown liquid erupt from the top row (cows often get the sqirts when being transported). Guess where it went? Uhhuh. right in the front seat... the white front seat. When bull-hauler walked out he froze.... and did a slow turn towards the Caddy..... his eyes getting bigger by the second. He bolted into the truck and I swear he laid rubber in all 13 gears. My guess is he knew Anita and was gonna call her from somewheres safe.... like BC.

Me? I left the other way just about as fast. I knew Anita too and had no intention of being within 10 miles when she saw her car.

 

I own my own truck, have my own authority, and used to be a pretty good bull rider on the circuits. I now want to look into bull hauling. I have no experience, but I am athletic and a very quick learner. I live in Arkansas, but that don't matter, as I can go anywhere. I would like to find a mentor to teach me about the art of bull hauling. I would like to find someone who would be willing to take me out on the road with them to teach me what I would need to know. I am looking for a mentor, so this must be an experienced person. Please let me know if any one is willing to talk to me about this.

The first time my husband crossed the border to meet me he had truck searched and was put in hand cuffs cause he had a hot shot on the truck! We can laugh about it now...

PS..hauling the load is only half the battle...getting them on and off is another!

If ya keep things moving and pay attention they dont turn around. If the cattle are ready, it shouldnt take more then 15 min to load, and les to unload

 

This might sound a little far fetched to many but there is art to it. I have noticed that many who get into it don't last too long because the smallest thing makes them freak out, and the stock can sense that. When this happens, all the trust is gone and it isn't going to return by screaming at 'em.

It is like gaining the trust of unbroken horse, they somehow know. Yes, you can jump on and break them and if you stay on long enough they will give up and give in but does it make them a better long term mount? I don't think so.

 

Your right... If I have a good ground crew (cowboys), and they bring me what I ask for, and bring them all at one time, there shouldnt be any need for hoopin and hollerin and hotshots. It doesnt need to be a freaken wild west show.Dont get me wrong as sometimes an animal needs alittle direction, but for the most part it can and should go pretty smooth. When you see a cow with her head high and her nose in the air, thats when you need to watch out as shes about to run your arse over. Ya just have to pay attention
