Yes, phased out in the 60's & 70's.

I drove a '72 Binder, a' 74 Ford LTL, and a '72 KW early in my career, all had buzzers for low air.

Cheaper than a 13 or 18 is what I meant.

OLDSKOOLERnWV, Oxbow and Hammer166 Thank this.

I didn't realize they range shifted automatically. I always thought they were just 5 forward ratios with a splitter and no range selector, hence the 10 speeds. Never tried one and don't think I've even seen one in 10 years.

    TooTiredToTalk and Oxbow Thank this.

You wouldn't believe how many drivers are amazed that we run an 18 speed. I then have to proceed to show them all 18 gears because they don't believe me.

You can hear it range select when you move the shifter to the right.

I've been at it 18 years now, and I still learn stuff all the time. If someone has a better way of doing something, I'm stealing it (while giving credit lol). If they've done something I haven't, I'm listening. That's how you git gud. Lol

No kidding, man. Those 7 speeds are ridiculously awful. I drove those at my second company after three years in a 10 speed, and I hated every moment of it. I was new to doubles, so could we have just one less weird variable? Lol

Yes, you are correct. With low air it would drop down in front of your eye view in the windshield…..
