Yup that is/was Robbie's truck. He was at D and D in the early 80's and I lost track of him while I was heavy hauling.
I don't know how it was last powered and geared but I had heard he had redone it.

Were they the onion haulers that used to run 97 in OR and WA with the single drives in the mid to late 90's?

    Read that before.

In my cannonball days, 5 speeds were the most common. 6 speeds were new. Lots of guys wanted a 6. Why?

    “Because they are FASTER.”

If my 5 has 1:1 fourth and a .74:1 fifth, and your 6 has a 1:1 fifth and a .74:1 sixth, how is it faster?

“Because it has 6 gears, Six…DUH?”

Just fine. In and out in under 2 hrs. They were all surprisingly friendly and helpful. Only pain was getting out over that bridge thats under construction going back to 95. Took an hour to go a ¼ mile.

The transmission I always looked at was the Tremec T56 Double Over with the 1:1 fourth, .80:1 fifth, and the .62:1 sixth. That’s a double over.

I only seen it a handful of times on the road, never up close. It was one ride that really made sure I got bit by the truckin bug. I've always wondered what happened to it...haven't seen it in 20 years now.

We had a 1970 twin screw like this at R&L Drilling. 6-71 / 10 speed. Had a T6 National Crane behind the cab and a 20’ flatbed behind that. It was Roger’s brain child behind buying the Beam trailer. Although it only had 13,000 miles on a rebuild the Detroit lacked highway speed with all that we loaded on it for a job. The beam was brought in to play, and this was just for around town and in the job once we got there. It was a good driving truck, and pretty good view…. For you & whoever was looking back at you lol….
