You can put that 20% into a Roth IRA and then invest it in an index fund so there are no taxes. The other good thing about putting it in a Roth is you can take it out 1 second after you deposit it for any reason. That used to keep me from funding my Roth. I was afraid I had to leave it in a minimum length of time or would owe taxes. Since the money is already taxed, you can leave it for 100 years or leave it for 1 second. You decide. I believe that being in the Roth it is also slightly less vulnerable to lawsuits.

On all 4 scenarios I follow company policy.
The number 1 company policy is run SAFE and legal. It trumps all other policies. In a game day, red zone scenario we don't do lot of second guessing. We will have conversations about it, but provided you didn't call a double reverse flea flicker hook and ladder from the 1 yard line no one at my company is going to get huffy over making the safest choice for the driver.
As to scenario 4 in particular- company policy is no one gets in your truck without authorization unless it's a bona-fide emergency. That INCLUDES other company drivers. I assume Little Miss Perky has a cosh or worse and as soon as my back is turned out go my lights. I'll call anyone she wants, pass warm clothes out the cracked window, but at O'Dark-Thirty my door doesn't get unlocked for ANYONE knocking until I've verified who they are - and that includes LEO.
All that said, I'm a boy scout but not a Saint. I was at the Lake Forest Oasis and a mom was walking her little boy by the trucks. Mom was obviously "mommed out" and was just trying to get through the rest of the road trip. I locked my air cuff over the brake buttons and let him climb in and hit the air horn. I violated both company and my own policies, but the risk was minor compared to the reward.dwells40, Gearjammin' Penguin and TripleSix Thank this. -
I don't have that money invested. I want quick access to it. So it's chilling in the bank. I can walk up to any ATM and pull out the cash. I also keep a credit card for emergency uses. I could go anywhere in the world with that.

For me now? When it comes to work, I'm rarely, if ever more than 2 hours from my home. So I don't need much.
But, vacation is another story.dwells40 Thanks this. -
My $ is spread around. I can pull it out of a bank ATM or sell stock and get the cash in a day or so.supergreatguy Thanks this.

I don't normally go more than 350 miles away from home but when I did run OTR, I always carried a couple of credit cards with 0 balances/ As well as a few Benjamins tucked away. Credit cards are a necessity to rent a car. Cash can get you out of a fix in a hurry.

Yes, when I’m traveling for work or personal I usually have a credit card and few hundred dollar bills in my boot. And a ankle holster on the other leg.
