Just checking in, found this site using Google, I have been interested in becoming a truck driver for years now, but still on hold, waiting to see if things get better, I'm going for my CDL this spring but only wish to do local hauls and such, don't think that being away from family for weeks or months at a time is for me, that is what was holding me back over the years.
I know drivers who are always away from home, it's tough on their marriages and kids, I don't want that, so I'm keeping to local haul, but I live in a small community and nepotism is a problem here like most small towns so I still might have to drive long distances just to find a so called local hauler.
I'm 48 and need a new career, I have always loved the big rigs since I was a little boy but until now haven't really settled on getting training to drive one and make it my new career.
