Never really got into selling the services aspect, more for my own use where I worked. I consulted as volunteer staff in the early days; as an employee, no bump in pay, just guru status. :) When I tried going pro, I was already over 40 and couldn't get interviews since they had the H1-B's they could abuse, so, figured to stick with what I knew. I'm more of a hobby coder now, but I'm still involved, especially for the last 4 years I've been home, trying to gear myself up again, but...it doesn't have the same pressure to stay busy at it since it's not "work". :)

The one thing I've been working on is a program to track my trips, miles, customers from the last 10 years of driving as a company driver. I put a bunch of data in (about 2 years worth) and then realized I need to better break it down, the structure, make entry screens etc. Right now, I'm breaking the giant database of all that information down into smaller tables and such to make it more modular, then I can go about making the entry screens, etc. I'm currently using one of the original big 3 apps of the PC revolution, dBASE (but the modern OOP version 'dBASE Plus') tables to do it, but have decided I should probably set it up to use a backend server database setup I can run from home, and keep the dBASE for the frontend, so I'm going to have to redo a lot of code I already did, in SQL rather than the native DML(Data Manipulation Language for those who don't know.). :(

I've always been at home on either side of the 'desk', but have trouble keeping them balanced. Seems when I get into one side or the other, I tend to dwell for a long time, my ADHD used to be a help, but it appears as age moves in, the energy isn't there to burn the candle at both ends as long, anymore. :) Now, I'm ready to get back to the physical side, while I still can.

Good luck to you fine, sir. Just remember, the puter is portable if it's notepad. :) Don't be a stranger. It may be good medicine to socialize, to take your mind off the therapy.

The 80ac adjoining mine is owned by some folks out of NoCal & they come every year to "hunt". There's so much shooting down there the deer must be shooting back best I can figure.
