I’m coming here to ask advice from the more experienced. Two weeks ago I had my King pins, steering knuckles, tie rod assembly, and rear spring bushings replaced on my 2005 PB 379. Also had a three axle alignment done along with new steer tires. Noticed yesterday my steering would get hard but only when I was stopped or rolling really slow. This morning as I was backing into a tight dock steering got hard and makes one heck of a binding noise. At first I thought it was the steering box headed south on me. Upon further inspection I noticed the keepers on the king pins were loose. I tightened them down (both sides) and now my steering is super tight and every time I turn the wheel no matter at a stop or rolling at any speed I get that binding sound. It’s not good. Gotta deliver this load in the morning then head back home to take it back into the shop. Can somebody please explain what is going on and would this be on the shop that did the work?? I forked over a little less then 8k to have the front end rebuilt less then two weeks ago. Your advice and help would be greatly appreciated. Kinda lost and do not know what the #### to do or how to handle this issue with the shop. 39B33F94-FF59-4860-A089-FC3D170DE6DE.jpeg 39B33F94-FF59-4860-A089-FC3D170DE6DE.jpeg 89329249-76A7-4D16-B0F5-5B2C5ECCAA36.jpeg 1C648D7B-A024-428C-8B28-11C1104FEAA3.jpeg

May be something other than king pins, but I doubt it. Maybe try greasing them to see if it helps. Sound like they didn't ream the bushings correctly.

It’s bad. Even worse when I tightened it down. Like a grinding, binding sound.

Definitely king pin related if tightening them made it worse.

My springs were worn out on a 2018 T680 at 450,000 Miles. Under load they would make a popping noise at low speeds going into a corner. Replaced the springs and shackles and that fixed the problem. Not sure if it's related but worth a look.

Why are the bolts cut on one side?

The king pin has a cut machined in it where those bolts go. Keeps the king pin from moving

KING PIN KEEPERS WERE LOOSE?? I'd dig up Telly Savalas and go meet and greet the shop you took it to. Unacceptable, and downright dangerous.

So after I tightened the keepers, the steering was real tight. Made and binding noise every time I turned. Got a load headed home from Indianapolis to Columbus Ohio. As I’m pulling into my delivery making a left hand turn the wheel got real tight and could not turn the full radius. So I stopped, turned the wheel, backed up and went to pull into driveway again. Wheel got real tight then gave way. The binding noise is gone. I got pretty scared so I checked in and tilted the hood. All looks well and keepers are still tight. Nothing I can see is broken. After unloading I have roughly a 100 mile dead head to the shop. Wheel feels like normal now after backing into dock. Really odd, weird and scary in my book. Taking truck straight to shop and wife will pick me up. You are right sir, downright unacceptable and flat out dangerous
