Understanding cargo securement

This is called "Making the straps sing soprano!"

 

There’s probably a ratio for this like every inch in length gives you X more % of torque??

Just be cautious about adding too much length and being able to do damage to certain products by over cranking and not knowing you did so due to the added length

 

Every extra inch will apply an extra 1/12th of your body weight in ft/lbs.

So if you weigh 200lbs, a 3' bar will provide 600lbs. If you increase it a foot, you can apply 800lbs.

 

Yeah, those are usually assigned by company as when you get your gear from them, unless they're being generous, but when company issued it they wouldn't spring for the big bar. Best thing it to know the regulations as far as securement ratings and whatnot, and then apply some physics. And when I say physics, it is just as simple as thinking about how the old will try to move. Think, if I slam on the brakes, the load will try to move this way, and how do I prevent that.

IDK why, but looking at random stuff strapped to a flatbed just never gets old.

 

May I add, never throw away your straps that get cut. You can use them as shorty’s as seen is the pics. Just my .02. Also besides softners, you can pick up along the way, old conveyor belts etc to use as softners so your straps don’t get cut or your chains securements don’t scratch up or scuff the product. Veterans understand my logic.
