Today is Day 3 for Marty and he is doing quite well. Yesterday, he experienced what it was like to drive for 10 hours and I think he got a new appreciation for how exhausting it can be. Of course, we weren't in any danger, and he wasnt getting groggy, but it didnt take long for him to fall asleep.

So far, we have worked with logs, Qualcomm, fueling procedures, inclimate weather (fog, snow, rain) driving, rest area parking, truckstop parking, hilly terrain, loading dock procedures, and all the little cool things in between.

I must say, he is doing quite well with everything, and I expect he will be a keeper.

    OK, I'm Back!

Been one heck of a week. To start, my trainee apparently decided that trucking wasn't for him, so come last Wednesday, I pulled out of the yard myself. I really hate it for him because he showed real potential. Not exactly sure what his reasons were, but what he told me made sense and I hope he does well in his future endeavors.

Pulled out Wednesday morning and loaded for Memphis. From there, ran up to Missouri, loaded and headed for Colorado. Then I reloaded and headed back for the Carolinas. All in all, it was a great week, but man was it cold. I fueled in Colby, KS and it was SOOOOOO COLD, I thought I was going to die. On top of that, the wind was blowing to beat the band.

Ice fog in Kansas, Ice in Topeka, snow and ice in Kansas City, snow and wind in Missouri, and snow and ice running through the mountains of West Virginia. But the worst was coming down Fancy Gap. I had heard on the CB that there were 3 trucks that had gotten blown over coming down the Gap on 77. When I got there, the wind was unreal. I got hit from the right side so hard, I thought I was going over too. But luckily, it didn't happen. I didn't hear anything about the driver's but I hope they are ok. There was also a travel trailer that obviously took a hit.

I was fortunate enough to hook up and run with IronRydr from Kansas City to Denver. We had a ball. I've got to tell you, it was so funny.....

I don't know if you have ever had the luck of eating breakfast at Grandma Max's (Bosselmans), but if you haven't, you need to add it to your bucket list. There is one in Salina, KS and Bubba (IronRydr) and I were close enough to make it there in the morning. Around 10am, I called and asked the girl what time they closed the breakfast buffet and she told me 11am. We were 45 minutes away. Needless to say, it was on.

We rolled into the parking lot, dust was chasing us, and we were determined. I jumped out of the truck, walkedd over to Bubba's truck and started knocking on the door. No answer. After the second knock, I said the hell with it and started walking to the restaurant. About halfway across the lot, my phone rings. It's Bubba asking me, "Where ya at?"!!! How he got out of the truck and across the parking lot so quickly, I'll never know.

So I go inside, meet up with him, and we start through the building. It is now 10:52. We look over at the buffet and there are lunch items. We were DESTROYED! So we went over to the counter and sat down. The waitress came over and took our drink order. We asked if they had taken the breakfast buffet down early and were informed that they only do that on Saturdays and Sundays. (But they do indeed take it down at 11). Needless to say, ol' Bubba and I laughed hard about it, knowing the events leading up to our entry into the building.

AND THEN..... yesterday, I arrived at my dropoff just outside of Greenville, SC. I swung the truck around and lined up on the dock. Jumped out of the truck, walked around back, unlocked the doors and opened them, climbed back up in the truck, and all I got was "Click" when I tried to start the truck. Long story short, the starter went ka-put! And there I was, sitting right in the middle of the traffic area of the loading dock. Being the time of the day, we ended up unloading the truck from the parking lot. We got the yard goat to pull-start me, and I headed for the Flying J. Left it running all night, delivered my final this morning, and successfully got the truck back to the yard.

So Otis is getting a new starter and I am at home getting a 34 hour restart (probably a little more than that). No complaints here. Tickled about the miles I got, tickled to be at home, and from the sounds of it, I am going to be headed back out west on Friday.... therefore, I am tickled the miles I will be getting.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again..... Man, I am glad I moved to LC...

I have enjoyed reading your posts and I am glad everything worked out for you switching to LC. Would you say that from Nov. til now that your feelings are the same for LCtrans.? Do they still care about their drivers and such. I know it seems a stupid question especially reading your posts but you havent really stated anything else about the company itself. I know me and the hubby have been searching different companies trying to find the ones that actually care about their drivers and treat them well. We have found one thus far but are still looking for other options. I know they are slim in this day and age and you have to be pretty careful. We live in the chesapeake area of virginia but will be moving to charlotte, nc not to long from now. I know you stated that LC looks for local people so I am wondering if they would still consider where we are at now as close enough. My husband is an owner op. so I am wondering as well if they hire those or is it company drivers only?? Not to mention if they were to have a lease purchase option. LOL I know I am full of questions and I appologize for the 50 questions but I like the fact that with your time with magnum and now here you have been honest and forth right with all questions asked of you. I know I have been very particular with some of these companies and I found these posts not to long ago and just let me tell you what an eye opener it has been!! I know you have to take the good with the bad and there is no perfect company out there but WOW is all I have to say on some of these companies. I just want my hubby to be happy and appreciated for the hard work that he puts forth. Thank you for reading this and hopefully I will hear from you soon.

    Hey There Vittlez!!!!

Gracious, you are an inquisitive one, arent you? hehehehehe Just kidding..... This is what I am here for.....

I will say, without a doubt, that I could not be happier. LC has some Great People and they have ALWAYS bent over backwards for their drivers. And the miles are good as well. No problems with pay, dispatch, the shop, or any driver. If I were recommending a company to a friend, indeed, LC would be the one. And I am not just saying that because I work here.

As far as the Charlotte thing and all of the other questions, that would be totally up to the powers-that-be. I know that they have o/o's, but I couldn't tell you if there are any openings for them OR company drivers right now. LC has a pretty low turnover rate and I haven't heard anything. I would say call up and ask.

Same with the lease purchase..... dunno.

As far as the BAD part of the company.... there very well may be something bad about LC, but honestly, I haven't found it yet.

Good luck and keep us posted.....

    Foggy ARF from Kansas!

Thank you so much for getting back to me!! We will definitely give them a call and see what they say! The fact that they have a very low turnover rate says something for them by itself!!! Even if they aren't hiring right now we will definitely keep our ears open. I will be on this post often as I also like hearing about your time on the road. Much happy thoughts to you and your family and stay safe!!

I tried to respond to your message but it will not let me until I write 50 posts lol,
I am not sure what to do as we are pretty new to this forum and it is a lil aggravating to say the least that you cannot communicate with some. LOL So please do not feel as if I were ignoring you.
