My last trip out I came down from Edmonton to airdrie and 2 was a bloody skating rink. First one in the rhubarb was a turn pike. We were able to get around him on the right shoulder which clumped everyone together. Then it was non stop turn pikes in the left lane high balling by everyone on shear ice.
Now I thought the rule was turn pikes weren't supposed to be out there on ####ty roads?Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Its a real grey area, what is a ####ty road? who makes that decision? what do you do if its nice then turns to ####? From my understanding, as long as there isn't a travel restriction, party on. Honestly tho, I wanted to do LCV for along time, and I think its a fun job in the spring/summer/fall. This winter was something else, and I had to refused to go anywhere near Edmonton, either up the 2 from Calgary, or Across 16 from Winnipeg. I've never had so many near death experiences on the road, as I did Nov-March full stop. But the reality is, enforcement is non-existent, and everyone is pushing pikes hard. I believe I mentioned before, that I'm with one of the last companies who still allowed single daytime drivers doing LCV, with the authority to stop at any time. Almost everyone else is doing Team LCV or switches, and they push those ####ers HARD. Pikes are making companies HUGE money, esp Team, Rig, New Way, Deva Jatt and Arnold Bro's are booming now with their 24/7 pike service. Bison is surviving off pikes, and are getting even more on the road. My personal opinion, is that pikes shouldn't be on the road November to March, but I'm gonna keep that to myself. You say that to any trucking company doing LCV right now, and they will kick your ### off the planet.
Even with all that, 80% of our fleet quit this Winter, its simply not worth it anymore. Esp as an O/O, and no one wants to buy company trucks now. Company Pike, you can bet your ### you're going out, no matter what the weather looks like. Just glad I'm done, look forward to being in in a Management Position out here. (No not dispatch) I was thinking service truck, but they had tons of actual mechanics applying for that, so I guess its time to dust off that degree and prepare for the 1000+ emails a day life again.Another Canadian driver Thanks this. -
Good choice.
Good luck. -
Try TransX in Calgary, they're always looking for LCV to Red Deer and back....
