Hi everyone, lurker for a year & first ever post. Tried searching for previous O’Reillys reviews, but only found a dead end thread where the poster passed on the job because he didn’t want to move. Checked out Indeed & Glassdoor, and they’re mixed like every job is. Doesn’t help that O’Reillys hires a LOT more retail workers than truck drivers either.
Background: OTR Jet Set Schneider bulk driver from January-August of last year out of FL. Really enjoyed working with them, but didn’t enjoy being away from family (24, pretty close to parents & have a long term GF), nor did I enjoy being on salary after a few months. Only left because my dad passed away, and that’s soured my taste on OTR. Honestly I don’t think I can ever go back to that unless I’m traveling with my family.
Being in Florida, our pay is garbage. I’m talking $1200/week for fuel hauling with self unloads, with 6 day work weeks. Plus I don’t have my full year yet which is a must here for 80% of companies.
I live reasonably close to an O’Reillys Distribution Center, so I applied & have an interview scheduled next week. So far what I’ve heard over the phone is fantastic. M-F with weekends off (I race sports cars in my free time so this is a BIG plus), holidays are off as well (unsure if paid), nights only (night owl anyways), and usually between 9-11 hours a night. $25 an hour with a .25c raise after 90 days, and continual increases with performance evals to top out at $30/hr. A typical run might be multiple store to store deliveries with electric pallet jacks, or a literal gravy run single drop & hook at the FL/GA border.
Only negative I’ve seen so far is no overtime pay. And not really a negative for me, but they pay bi-weekly instead of weekly, which most truckers hate for some reason. Other than that this really seems like a golden goose type of gig for someone like me at my experience level & lifestyle. Heck, I worked in a NAPA Auto Parts store for 2.5 years before I started truck driving, lmao.
If any current or former employees are lurking here, please let me know what it’s like!

Auto parts today is one of the biggest marketing venues in the country. This is why I say, some folks want their own trucks, when a quality job like auto parts dist. comes up, GO FOR IT, MAN!! 3 things today that can't fail, groceries, mail order craap, and auto parts. The trouble is, and doesn't affect the distribution driver, is getting the wanted parts from the DC to the local "brick and mortar" store. I needed a starter for my Jeep, NOBODY had one. Okay, I live in a rural area( with 4 autoparts stores) on a Thursday, I ordered one, I think they are Carquest/Advance, but doesn't matter, "no problem, be here tomorrow( Fri)" Next day, I go in witht he old starter,,"um,,yeah, sorry, it was never put on the truck, it will be in Tuesday.( more accurately, it didn't pay for the local truck to come all that way from the DC for a starter, NAPA had it the next day,,,for an extra $10 bucks,,,they knew I needed it) I did a route job for Bumper to Bumper many years ago. Left at like 8pm, had maybe 6 or 7 stores with restock, not a bad job, done by 4 or 5am. I'd imagine that's what you would do, restock for stores. You get to know everybody, rarely any of the usual trucking shenanigans, backhauls, scales, traffic, you can't go wrong there, pal.

Good part is the stores are usually closed when you’re backing into the parking lot . So usually no cars blocking your access
If your truck is pre loaded when you arrive at the dc that’s even better
and you unload into the cage and leave .
No time wasting #### chat or waiting for a door or waiting for the forklift driver etc.
biggest thing is Probabaly going to be making sure you drop the right boxes at the right store .The Shadow, SpeedRacer41 and Val_Caldera Thank this. -

Are there any security concerns working around these stores at night?
bzinger Thanks this. -
you would have to maybe check at night time, when deliveries are made, and carefully approach the trucker and ask him or her, the name of thier company that delivers to the stores.
same is true with NAPA, Auto-Zone, Advanced Auto.
all alone, had the keys and alarm codes to the buildings.
made my skin crawl with "things" inside the building's suddenly made sounds.
depends on the neighborhoods. many auto parts stores are like Family Dollar stores locations......so...what would you think..???? -
I’m guessing they’re one of the few that actually still do…
