Curiosity, why is it so difficult for drivers to not respect the reserved parking spots? Been running back and forth to SLC a lot lately, our customer reimburses us if we have to pay for parking, as a result, I usually park at the J on 900, we reserve a spot. 12 of the last 14 times we've done this, upon arrival, all the reserved spots are taken, and at least 6 of them are trucks that didn't pay, then we have to track down security, and watch as he deals with the getting drivers to move.
Yes, I admit, SLC is grossly short of truck stops and truck parking, and it doesn't help that there's always at least 10 dropped trailers at the J, and another 5 or 6 who leave their trucks and go home at night, but seriously drivers.

The security had me pay for a spot one night....i didn't even know I was in reserved parking. They had it painted on the ground apparently but I got halfway through a 34 before I was informed it was reserved. The paint was so faded nobody would notice. Many of them have the signs behind the spaces so that helps. OP, people don't respect those spots because it's easy to get away with parking in reserved in many places around the country. Some do check, many don't.....don't...ask me how I know

Was on a 34 last year. Got a hair up my but t one day. Started hooking up dropped trailers and taking em down the road a mile or two.

Unless TSs start to assign a parking spot number to a reservation party, there will be no end to freebee "lovers".

I’ve been out here, OTR for four years and I’ve only paid for reserve spot one time. I refuse. I get in certain situation it’s a must. But wish drivers would trip plan around it so truck stops would get rid of paid parking.
Trucker Paul Thanks this. -
You are 100%, absolutely and undoubtedly correct.. in your selfish mind. If there is an option for a driver to accommodate a parking spot in advance instead of "hopping" around looking for one with an empty log, or.. while the truck has being unloaded somewhere at night and he/she needs to have a sleep after, while everything is filled up by "trip planners"... you have no right to judge them, furthermore they are willing to pay for their assured rest spot.
PS: and by the way, THAT IS a trip planning, to reserve a spot ahead, if one is still available where I plan to stop without guess work and nerve stretching.Last edited: Mar 19, 2022

That's What I Liked About Running Dedicated Routes To The End Of My OTR Experiences.
A Plethora Of Known Places Where I Could Anytime Park.
I Preferred Both Mom-n-Pop Stops, Rest-Areas As Well A Customer Location In CLT, NC.
I NEVER PAID To Park Other Than The 2 Times, In El Paso, I Tried An Idle-Aire Gizmo!!
It Was Fun When It Was!!Maverick Griff Thanks this. -
Like I said, I’ve driven OTR for four years. I’ve delivered at all hours of the night and morning and day. In all areas of the country. Average between 130 and 145,000 miles per year. I paid for parking once. I rest my case. If you think that’s selfish of me not to pay for parking,? I don’t know what to tell you. And by the way, that is, as in really is, trip planningTrucker Paul and drvrtech77 Thank this.

You’re right… It is all about trip planning and adjusting such trip planning as things change throughout the day…
