    10 hour break, splits...

    Nope.
I do a 12 hour minimum, and no splitting anything.

People (shippers, receivers, sales, planners...) think they can schedule loads with so little time on them that it makes the driver jump through hoops to get it there on time.

I say no. There is no need for that in the first place.
All those on that end of things can plan things better than that.

And if I am held up at the shipper it will not be on me to make up the difference on the other end.
I plan my loads with a certain schedule that is laid out in the load assignment.
If it gets messed up through no fault of my own, that time gets added in to the delivery time.

How many “service failures” or whatever they’re called have you been dinged with because somebody higher up the chain that insists on kissing the behinds of certain shippers wound up with egg on his or her face?

    Actually, none.
I have had 3 service failures in my 11 years with Swift, with one actually being my fault because I overslept.
The other 2 were unrelated to this.

I have never found kissing the behinds of certain shippers/receivers from the higher-ups in my company to be a problem.
I tell my DM what happened, he/she sends it up, and it gets rescheduled to my time. Simple.

I guess I live in the Goldilocks zone, because I never seem to have the same problems as most of the truckers out there with these things.
Or maybe I am just working with better people?

I've done it a few times logged out of the E-log.

Afterwards, the Elog of course self audits and asks you to accept or decline the short move and I would just say no. I had asked the safety person about this before and they said just don't abuse it; they'll look the other way if there is a rare tiny move.

Which can be a bad idea on both ends if an accident happens and the logs are really looked at.
