Maybe 3 weeks ago I got an news email about ppl drilling holes in gas tanks to steal the gas. Fast forward to 3 weeks after that. Someone is actually stealing gas from underground tanks now.

But back In Sept. 07 through Jan 08 I never heard of so much fuel theft. O/O's would back in next to a company truck. Wait for the driver to go inside. And they would pull out there siphoning hose and pump so nonchalantly it was crazy.

But now in March of 2022. Im sure there will be more stealing like it was back then. Some states are already checking for red off road diesel at weigh stations. Hell last week I got 105 gallons and noticed it was $555. I said dang. Glad I'm a company driver and not a O/O with my own authority. Cause I'm sure brokers don't want to come off any money on loads right now.

If fuel is still high by summer. I bet fuel theft will be crazy by then. Some O/O's will do anything for lower cost fuel. Hell I've been bribed at the fuel island by O/O's before. But I would never take there cash and let them fuel off my company card.

That same week had a driver fill at $6.19+ x 160 gallons in eastern PA...

But to your second point fast forward a month to now and rates are dropping faster than the fuel prices are dropping... wouldn't be surprised if those fuel thefts are happening more and more.

Pretty soon the fuel depots' or refinery's tanks will be drilled and set up with underground hoses to flee markets.

Why would you let the driver get whole 160 gallons in PA? It is only 300 miles long to get to a non PA priced fuel stop if going West.

How long is it going East?
    Hahaha.
I recently made a trip from Texas to PA. I intentionally fueled in PA instead of OH. because the pretax price was lower.

I don't micromanage my drivers but did have a conversation about using that station (Trexlertown Plaza for anyone familiar) in the future. We usually have very good discounted fuel rates on our cards but of course the young padawan did not care where he fueled nor cared to use the fuel app provided to find the best, or at least decent, fuel prices around. Had he used it he would have seen that plaza does not discount at all and is the most expensive in the area.

Re: 300 mi... no need to go that far, he could have gotten it just 30 miles sooner in NJ
