If you are not running an amp turn it fully clockwise.

Assumeing its stock, half way to 75% might be your cleanest output..Anything more is likely pointless heat..

As far as I know it’s just stock. I haven’t been able to find someone that can look over it for me.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.

Buy a SWR/power meter and you can test it yourself. A stock CB usually puts out 3 watts or so. The legal limit for AM is 4 watts. Most small amplifiers usually only need 1 to 2 watts in from the radio. That's where the RF power knob comes in handy. I run the RF power knob fully clockwise on my 959, doesn't hurt a thing. I don't run an amplifier. I did bump the AM power up to 4 watts on my radio, seems like it was around 3 watts from the factory.

Okay, that's usually the norm on a stock CB radio. There won't be any extra heat or stress on the transmit final if you run the RF power knob fully clockwise.Another Canadian driver Thanks this.
