Thanks all, the reason I got into trucking, was the camaraderie amongst my fellow drivers, something I felt here initially, and part of my frustration, is my knowledge is no longer needed. Clearly, I don't fit in, and would never consider a career in trucking today. Things have gotten so much better for the driver, but you know what? It was those "challenges" everyday, that made the job interesting. I talked with a friend, an old timer heavy equipment operator, he said, now everything is laser guided, all the operator does is forward and back. It's incredibly boring, and ended up retiring. Practically my entire career, I never lost fact of the pioneers of trucking before me, and we've gotten to the point, it's not needed, just the way it went down. Pilots too, I heard, all they do is takeoff and land the plane, a far cry from the old DC3's. Good luck all with the future, I think it stinks.
BTW, I realize the irony of someone named "Happily" retired, and complaining. I'm NOT "Happily" retired, and would change my handle again, if I knew how. After retiring, I found out what a shaft the older folks in this country get, "bilk 'em before they die" sort of thing, so be ready for that. Peace all.

You should get one of these! Have some fun with the kids in the neighborhood! Of course after you've told them to stay off your lawn!

I respectfully disagree. You have a lot to offer the youngsters on this site, and even those of us who aren't quite so young. Plus, I like reading about how things were back in the wild and woolly days before my generation started driving.

I think a lot of us who have been around for a while are starting to feel that way (about the business, not about this website). But then again I didn't become a driver in order to fit in with the crowd, and considering some of the things I see nowadays I'm darn proud of the fact that I don't fit in with the crowd.

That makes at least two of us.

After giving 22 years of my life to this job I’m the point now that with the amount of stupid I see on a regular basis I can understand how @Happily Retired feels.

Stupid is everywhere not just in trucking.
Go do some construction work for awhile you'll see a whole plethora of stupid.
