Use for the road test? What ever truck is handy really. Could be a Kenworthless, A PeterPuffer, Freightshaker, Vulva, Intertrashtional, etc. Sometimes they use a loaded trailer, sometimes empty. All will either be Autoshift (with clutch, but a automatic), or Ultrashift (no clutch, fully automatic). Even if you are a O/O, you will road test in one of their trucks..
Autoshift (with clutch, but a automatic)-how it works?

Well I got my orientation date on Feb 13, looking forward to it. The guy I talked to was very helpful and answered all of my questions. So here we go!!

I may be there for that class as well. -
My advice to all people considering this profession: Save all your W2's from your prior places of work. My recruiter, Tommi, was good about keeping me updated. I am leaving this Saturday for Dalton, GA. Anyone else going to be in Tunnelhill around that time????

Is it just me or does this seem really complicated! Hard to beat the simplicity of a stick shift!
Is the main advantage of these transmissions fuel mileage? -
Idiot proofing the trucks. Maverick has mostly autoshifts. I read where they tell you in orientation to manually shift them for best mileage.
These trannys are not true autos. My future son in law is a tranny specialist. Says the one without the pedal has a centrifugal clutch similar to a go cart. If you are sitting on a hill you need a foot on the brake and one on the accelerator. If not you will roll backwards!
We had a 2008 KW with autoshift at school. When it downshifts it revs up to match gear and engine speed. These trannys are not true automatics.
I have driven 5 speed Allison autos that shifted just like a car. Dad has a 6 speed Allison behind a 300HP Cat in his motor home. I used to work with a guy that had a 80 something Pete with a 465HP 8V-92 Detroit with the Allison 5 speed auto. That truck would honk!
To another poster back a page. Go check into getting your training paid for by the WIA. That is what I did. Don't be chained to a company for over priced training. I went to a state Tech school.
