If he bought a truck for business there are many questions you need answers for . Even he is leased to a carrier the truck is working for the carrier , not him . He is self employed . You need to find a good tax professional , either an enrolled agent or CPA . It's best to know all the possible deductions and obligations from day one .
    He shouldn't need a business license .

Assuming he has a CDL...right. If he leases on to a company they will probably provide a license for the truck and take out payments from his settlements. He will need a paid IRS 2290...costs $550 per year and is pro rated. Check with former owner of the truck as the 2290 goes with the truck. Of course there are all kinds of insurance issues that he will have to work out with whoever he leases on with. Good luck.
