I can tell you what I know. I went through the "pre-hire" last summer and the last thing was the truck inspection at my local Petro. They say there is no truck requirment except it must pass a very detailed Landstar DOT Inspection. I will admit it was more than the standard DOT inspection my company uses. We have to get our trucks inspected every 91 days like Landstar. So I hope this helps.... Landstar has their own form and its very thorough.

Last I knew your truck has to past the inspection, but I've been out of the Landstar system since the end of October so that may have changed....call Landstar and ask !!

From what i know, it can be any age with any amount of miles. It must pass the safety department and be reliable. As others have said, they have their own test that is very intense.

has to pass a "through" DOT

in my experiance it isnt any worse than a normal DOT......
just watch where ya go ...... some places only see a LS truck as a source of revenue

I'm suprised they will tell you... I applied at Landstar and in about 2 hours their assessment center called me back and said I wasn't qualified... I asked "Why?" they said "We can't tell you." to which I responded "Why not?" They cited privacy concerns??? "What the heck!, I can't fix it if I don't know what's broke." I responded.

I thought a while, what could they have done in 2 hours... Pull my DAC? I pulled my own DAC, and found a glitch.. I called L/S back... "Is this the problem" I asked? again they said "We can't tell you, but feel free to re-apply in 1 year.." I was stunned!

I noticed on your profile that you stated your 20 y/o... you might want to ask about that.. I would see that could be a major factor in being hired on at L/S.. Better check around before you invest too much time and $$. Just a thought.
