I know truck services, but dont know what you mean. I live in benton harbor, and he apparently bought a dry van trailer with broken landing gear in michigan and i was just offering to inspect it and help him find a vendor to fix it if he hadnt taken care of it yet.

truck services is a great place FYI, but they told me their minimum selling price for a tractor is 6k, and if they cant get 6k they can get 6k in parts.

Hopefully you will be able to find a good truck eventually. It was a smart move to rent out the trailer since you aren't using it right now. Just stay patient and look for the perfect truck. In this economy it is bound to pop up eventually.

I would say if you only want to invest 5K into a business, then you are no better than the trucks that are being allowed across our border, to point of delivery.:biggrin_25510:
DOT will tear you apart as they see the year in your VIN code.

I don't think it's quite that cut-and-dried. While I do agree that DOT-goons will gravitate toward older trucks, it isn't necessarily going to be a clunker. In the current economic conditions, I'm seeing some halfway decent fixer-uppers for not much more than that.

Of course, I won't make any assumptions about mechanical ability. I'll just mention that I think it's a pretty darned good idea to have some if you're going into this sort of thing.
